Asus and Noctua managed to launch the latest joint graphics card earlier than ever this time. The Asus RTX 4080 Super Noctua Edition is being released alongside the other models. Noctua has apparently already optimized its cooler to satisfaction on the older variant, the RTX 4080, and the situation on the RTX 4080 Super hasn’t changed enough to require design intervention. Everything is ready for production. Read more “The new card you won’t hear – Asus RTX 4080 Super Noctua”

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super by Asus: 9 cards, 3 different designs
Covering the graphics cards coming out now as the GeForce RTX 4000 “Super” refresh, we’ve looked at a card directly by Nvidia, an MSI card, and we’ll look at Gigabyte one soon. We’ll miss on Asus as the third major manufacturer, so instead we’ll take a look at the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super versions that this brand will be offering. There’s quite a lot of them, including some using the BTF backside board power supply instead of a 16pin. Read more “GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super by Asus: 9 cards, 3 different designs”
12VHPWR cable thermal imaging: Different PSU, different temps
Something for warm-up. We’ll start our ATX 3.0 PSU tests with perhaps the most talked about topic surrounding them, the temperatures of the new cables with 16-pin PCIe connectors. The overview of the PSUs of twelve brands answers well the question of how the manufacturers handled which models. With high current loads, the temperature differences can be quite significant, both on the connector housings and on the wire insulation. GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with M.2 slot launched, can use PCIe 5.0 SSD
Some GPUs in current gaming graphics cards use just eight PCIe lanes instead of the whole ×16 interface. This includes cards like the Radeon RX 7600 and also the GeForce RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti. Asus recently came up with an idea to make use of the extra lanes that would go to waste such a GPU, and made a graphics card that gets some utility out of of the excess lanes, using them to connect an SSD and provide an extra M.2 slot. This is the complete ATX 3.0 power supply test lineup
Recently, in fact for most of 2023, we’ve been collecting various ATX 3.0 power supplies. In total, twelve have been collected, which is also the final number with which we are now leaving for measurements. Before we start publishing the tests, you can check out a comprehensive overview of all the models. Or leave a comment, which we can eventually incorporate into our analyses. Asus DIMM Flex: If fast memory, then managed dynamically
Although no new boards with the Z890 chipset came out with Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs, each manufacturer added new models with the “old” (Z790) chipset. The reason to take interest in them may be, for example, DIMM Flex support. The latter should increase memory bandwidth and stability on selected Asus motherboards. Asus describes well how it all technically works and has published some practical results as well. Read more “Asus DIMM Flex: If fast memory, then managed dynamically”
Asus ROG Strix 850G Aura: Biggest power supply on the list
It gives a very good first impression. The design of the housing is something that sets this Asus ROG Strix 850G Aura PSU apart from the rest. Besides the above-standard dimensions, which suggest that it could be “rich” inside as well, there’s also a rather sophisticated cover or grille, and in line with aesthetic trends, there are also ARGB LEDs. What remains to be seen is what form the main thing will take – the electrical characteristics. Read more “Asus ROG Strix 850G Aura: Biggest power supply on the list”
Asus Prime AP201: The emmental among computer cases
Cheaper, yet decent cases are not completely gone from the market yet. One such case is the Prime AP201 from Asus’ lower-end. Considering the price well under 100 EUR, you get a case with a above-standard build quality, which is characterized by the “infinite” perforation. Cool air is thus available to components theoretically from all sides. But this also means that it doesn’t damp noise too much. The question is what weighs more in the bigger picture. Asus puts M.2 SSD on GeForce RTX 4060 Ti to make use of PCIe ×16
There’s more and more graphics cards that don’t use the full width of PCI Express ×16 slot and run with just eight lanes to cut GPU die area and cost. This usually renders the remaining eight lanes useless, but Asus has now come up with an idea to make them useful. They still won’t be usable for the graphics card itself, but at least they’ll find some use. It could come in handy on A620 boards with a shortage of M.2 slots, for example. Asus Dual RTX 4070 12G or RTX 3080 cease to make sense
GeForce RTX 4070 graphics cards fill a large gap between the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4060 Ti, and in terms of speed or gaming performance, they hover around the RTX 3080. But that’s with many advantages, including half the power draw with the RTX 4070. With cheaper designs, such as the tested Asus Dual variant, the price/performance ratio is also more attractive with the RTX 4070 (compared to discount RTX 3080s). Asus improves board warranty: Memory OC and beta BIOS covered
Recently, a controversy has flared up on the web surrounding Asus motherboards. It is related to the issues of Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs killed by excessive VSoC voltage, which was previously set too high by Asus boards (not just Asus ones though). Asus received further complaints after providing a fix as a beta BIOS update that was not officially covered by warranty. The company has now responded by changes that should improve things quite a bit. Read more “Asus improves board warranty: Memory OC and beta BIOS covered”
ROG Strix SCAR 18 or a test of RTX 4090/Core i9-13980HX combo
Processors and graphics cards of the latest generations are already available in laptops nicely together, side by side, which also applies to the Asus model series – SCAR 18. We are talking about powerful hardware, or the most powerful, as far as the configuration we tested is concerned. This one features both a top-notch CPU and GPU . Meanwhile, the Scar 18 is a relatively compact laptop considering its high performance. Read more “ROG Strix SCAR 18 or a test of RTX 4090/Core i9-13980HX combo”
A620 chipset specs in detail: a PCIe Gen4 uplink surprise
Last Friday, the last day of Q1, low-cost AM5 boards for Ryzen 7000 processors based on the low-end A620 chipset were released by all the manufacturers in a coordinated fashion (we’ve put together an overview of the models here), but AMD itself didn’t make any announcements at first, so we didn’t have exact specs. These have been published now and include one surprising thing which makes the A620 better than expected. Read more “A620 chipset specs in detail: a PCIe Gen4 uplink surprise”
Cheap A620 AM5 boards are out, starting at $85. Here’s the models
In the last few days, inexpensive A620 chipset-based AM5 motherboards for Ryzen 7000 started leaking. We’ve already seen photos of one model and it seems that AMD has timed the unveiling and release for the last day of March (maybe they wanted to formally make it before the end of the first quarter). And now, boards with this chipset were launched from all the usual manufacturers, with the cheapest ones going as low as $85. Read more “Cheap A620 AM5 boards are out, starting at $85. RTX 4080 Noctua Edition is out. Great cooler, what about the coils?
You already know the non-reference graphics cards with Noctua coolers from the Nvidia Ampere generation (GeForce RTX 3000), but now comes the first design with an Ada Lovelace GPU, on the RTX 4080. The main improvement of the cooler lies in the use of the Vapor Chamber and the cooling efficiency seems to be really top-notch. But we know less about the coils – nobody was really concerned with them in tests, but we did get some information from Noctua. Read more “RTX 4080 Noctua Edition is out. Great cooler, what about the coils?”
