It introduces the individual graphics chips Nvidia is using in the new cards, the new GDDR7 memory type, and also covers changes in cache memory, GPU compute units, updates to shaders and tensor cores, as well as improved compute units for ray tracing. The new generation of GeForce also brings support for new standards such as DisplayPort 2.1b and PCI Express 5.0.

With the new generation of cards, DLSS capabilities are evolving as well. It now supports Multi Frame Generation, which allows the generation of up to three intermediate frames, and introduces Nvidia Reflex 2, the second generation of its latency-reduction technology. This includes Frame Warp, which adjusts object and camera motion in rendered frames based on the player’s most recent input device movement data received just before the already rendered frame is displayed. A more detailed explanation can be found in the aforementioned article.

The specifications and suggested prices of the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 Ti have already been presented in the article GeForce RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti are here: Specs, pricing, availability. Here, we’ll just briefly summarize – the RTX 5060 Ti is equipped with the smallest chip so far based on the Blackwell architecture, designated GB206. It has a die size of 181 mm² and 21 billion transistors. The core contains 4608 stream processors, 144 texture mapping units, and 48 raster units, along with 36 RT cores and 144 tensor cores. The base clock speed of the GPU is 2407 MHz, with a boost of 2572 MHz, and the power limit is set at 180 W. It comes in variants with either 8 or 16 GB of GDDR7 memory, connected via a 128-bit bus. The memory speed is 28 Gb/s, and the total memory bandwidth is 448.0 GB/s.

The first to hit the market are the 16GB variants of the RTX 5060 Ti, while the trimmed-down 8GB version of the RTX 5060 Ti and the 8GB RTX 5060 are scheduled to go on sale a few days later. The reason Nvidia prefers reviews of the 16GB version is clear – in several memory-intensive games, 8GB cards suffer from performance drops at ultra settings due to insufficient memory. Precisely because these games can showcase the benefits of greater memory, they are overrepresented in benchmarks compared to their share of the gaming market and significantly influence the overall evaluation.

Memory also runs out on 8GB GeForce cards in some games when path tracing, DLSS, and frame generation are combined. However, frame generation combined with demanding ray tracing is exactly what Nvidia highlights as the main advantage over previous-generation GeForce cards – and if these features can’t be used, the generational leap isn’t as apparent.

Asus TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition – the mid-range offering

For the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, Asus places the TUF series at the top of its lineup, above the Prime and Dual series. By default, P mode is selected, but you can switch using a toggle next to the power connector. In the images below, P mode is shown first. In such a setup, the system has virtually unlimited access to cool ambient air from the surroundings, and the warm air from the graphics card is quickly expelled into the open air. Inside a case, however, the air volume is much smaller. Once components are installed, it becomes necessary to find a balance, tuning the cooling system so that system fans aren’t too noisy, while still ensuring sufficient airflow through the case. Powerful CPUs and GPUs produce a lot of heat, raising the temperature inside the case, and component temperatures are usually higher than under ideal open-bench conditions. This is why results for clocks, temperatures, and noise in such test setups tend to look better than what you’ll see with the same components inside a PC case.

That’s why graphics cards are tested inside a PC case. For this purpose I chose the Fractal Design Meshify 2, featuring one of the most common case layouts and cooling designs. Unlike expensive, oversized cases, its size and price make it suitable for lower- and mid-range GPUs, while still being able to fit and cool even large, power-hungry, high-end graphics cards. In this setup, using a case with all fan mounts populated lets us compare cards under identical conditions.

All system fans are set to around 780 rpm. I opted instead for a top-of-the-line air cooler, the Noctua NH-D15 G2 LBC in an offset mounting configuration, for two main reasons. First, it offers greater reliability and more predictable long-term cooling performance compared to liquid coolers. Second, it has a smaller impact on case airflow than an AIO.

When CPU load increases, speeding up the radiator fans on an AIO cooler can significantly change the airflow inside the case. With an air cooler, higher CPU fan speeds have much less impact on case airflow. The system fans are set to a fixed speed to maintain constant airflow, making it more suitable for comparing graphics cards under similar conditions.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Our graphics card tests run on an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. It also offers a dual BIOS and other premium features, but these come at a steep price.

Fan behavior, noise levels

Just like with almost all graphics cards of recent generations, this card operates passively under low load. The minimum speed at which the fans can run is set at 30%.

At the lower threshold, the fan speeds slightly diverged at the same power setting; for the tested sample, the fans spun at roughly 830 RPM on fan connector 1 and 796 RPM on fan connector 2, with a measured noise level of 29.7 dBA—below the lower limit of the sound meter’s measuring range. From 34% performance and 850 RPM upwards, the fan speeds were synchronized.

In Quiet mode, after heating up, the fans ramped up to 980–1000 RPM, at which a noise level of 30.2–30.4 dBA was measured. The fans are practically inaudible, and instead of aerodynamic noise, you’re more likely to hear the coils of the power delivery system. They are slightly quieter compared to more powerful cards, but in a passively cooled setup during nighttime silence, you may still notice them.

In Performance mode, fan speeds during load reached between 1520–1600 RPM. Correspondingly, noise levels measured between 35.9 and 37 dBA. These are values where the cooler becomes audible even from a few meters away, but it remains noticeably quieter than average graphics cards noise-wise.

The fans can spin up to 3400 RPM, providing ample headroom for further overclocking and cooling experiments. However, it’s unlikely anyone would want to operate the card long-term at fan speeds where the noise meter climbed to 58.6 dBA.

Cyberpunk 2077, RT Medium, 3840 × 2160 (P mode)

The first set of measurements is from the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark with RT Medium settings at a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels. Although its power consumption isn’t particularly high, it comes with a large triple-slot cooler (30 cm) that easily manages the 180W load, keeping GPU and memory temperatures at 70 °C with fans running at just 1000 RPM and staying whisper-quiet. It also offers a dual BIOS and other premium features, but these come at a steep price.

Final thoughts

Nvidia’s suggested price for the cards is 379 USD for the 8GB variant and 429 USD for the 16GB version. Although it’s still not the case that most RTX 5060 Ti cards are readily available in stores, you can now find RTX 5060 Ti models ranging from the cheapest to the most premium, so there are options to choose from.

The cheapest available 16GB GeForce RTX 5060 Ti cards start at around 460 EUR. Asus models are slightly more expensive. The basic RTX 5060 Ti Dual starts at around 530 EUR, the Prime version costs about 30 EUR more, and the TUF variant demands another 20–30 EUR premium. In the top TUF OC version, prices start at around 600 EUR, dangerously close to the 12GB RTX 5070, whose prices start at around 650 EUR.

Compared to the basic 16GB RTX 5060 Ti models, you’re paying over a 25% premium, and the factory overclock won’t nearly justify that price difference. If you’re primarily choosing based on price-to-performance ratio, you should opt for one of the cheaper models that still offer more than just a basic cooler.

The features and operating characteristics, as usual for higher-end Asus models, are excellent – but due to the significant price premium for these features, the price-to-performance ratio is considerably worse compared to the basic models.

We’ll see how prices develop over time, but at the moment, purely from a price-to-performance perspective, the TUF Gaming RTX 5060 Ti is not worth it. There likely won’t be many competing models that are quieter under load, but a more interesting compromise could be the RTX 5060 Ti Prime series – the cooler is slightly smaller, but with the card’s lower power consumption, it should perform similarly in terms of noise levels.

English translation and edit by Jozef Dudáš

Pros and Cons

+ 16 GB of memory
+ Robust design, excellent features, dual BIOS, factory overclock
+ Exceptionally quiet cooling in Quiet mode
+ Cooler offers large thermal headroom
+ Option to raise the power limit by 54 W for overclocking
+ Support for DLSS 4 and other proprietary Nvidia technologies
+ Significant ray tracing performance improvement compared to the previous generation

– Current price is close to RTX 5070
– High premium over MSRP of basic models, unfavorable price-to-performance ratio
– Coil whine is not completely inaudible
– Runs on eight PCIe 5.0 lanes; on older motherboards (especially PCIe 3.0), performance may drop in some scenarios

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards can be purchased in the Datacomp e-store.

⠀
<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block;background-color:transparent"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-8150419924824893"
     data-ad-slot="6522017574"
     data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

The top model of the RTX 5060 Ti currently available from Asus is the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB OC Edition.
