It introduces the individual graphics chips Nvidia is using in the new cards, the new GDDR7 memory type, and also covers changes in cache memory, GPU compute units, updates to shaders and tensor cores, as well as improved compute units for ray tracing. The new generation of GeForce also brings support for new standards such as DisplayPort 2.1b and PCI Express 5.0.

With the new generation of cards, DLSS capabilities are evolving as well. It now supports Multi Frame Generation, which allows the generation of up to three intermediate frames, and introduces Nvidia Reflex 2, the second generation of its latency-reduction technology. This includes Frame Warp, which adjusts object and camera motion in rendered frames based on the player’s most recent input device movement data received just before the already rendered frame is displayed. A more detailed explanation can be found in the aforementioned article.

The specifications and suggested prices of the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 Ti have already been presented in the article GeForce RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti are here: Specs, pricing, availability. Here, we’ll just briefly summarize – the RTX 5060 Ti is equipped with the smallest chip so far based on the Blackwell architecture, designated GB206. It has a die size of 181 mm² and 21 billion transistors. The core contains 4608 stream processors, 144 texture mapping units, and 48 raster units, along with 36 RT cores and 144 tensor cores. The base clock speed of the GPU is 2407 MHz, with a boost of 2572 MHz, and the power limit is set at 180 W. It comes in variants with either 8 or 16 GB of GDDR7 memory, connected via a 128-bit bus. The memory speed is 28 Gb/s, and the total memory bandwidth is 448.0 GB/s.

The first to hit the market are the 16GB variants of the RTX 5060 Ti, while the trimmed-down 8GB version of the RTX 5060 Ti and the 8GB RTX 5060 are scheduled to go on sale a few days later. The reason Nvidia prefers reviews of the 16GB version is clear – in several memory-intensive games, 8GB cards suffer from performance drops at ultra settings due to insufficient memory. Precisely because these games can showcase the benefits of greater memory, they are overrepresented in benchmarks compared to their share of the gaming market and significantly influence the overall evaluation.

Memory also runs out on 8GB GeForce cards in some games when path tracing, DLSS, and frame generation are combined. However, frame generation combined with demanding ray tracing is exactly what Nvidia highlights as the main advantage over previous-generation GeForce cards – and if these features can’t be used, the generational leap isn’t as apparent.

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Eagle OC 16GB: Half the size, not half-baked

The Eagle series models sit roughly in the middle of the lineup – below them are the Windforce cards, and above them are the triple-fan Gaming, Aero, and premium Aorus GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Elite models.

This particular card is factory overclocked. In such a setup, the system has virtually unlimited access to cool ambient air from the surroundings, and the warm air from the graphics card is quickly expelled into the open air. Inside a case, however, the air volume is much smaller. Once components are installed, it becomes necessary to find a balance, tuning the cooling system so that system fans aren’t too noisy, while still ensuring sufficient airflow through the case. Powerful CPUs and GPUs produce a lot of heat, raising the temperature inside the case, and component temperatures are usually higher than under ideal open-bench conditions. This is why results for clocks, temperatures, and noise in such test setups tend to look better than what you’ll see with the same components inside a PC case.

That’s why graphics cards are tested inside a PC case. For this purpose I chose the Fractal Design Meshify 2, featuring one of the most common case layouts and cooling designs. Unlike expensive, oversized cases, its size and price make it suitable for lower- and mid-range GPUs, while still being able to fit and cool even large, power-hungry, high-end graphics cards. In this setup, using a case with all fan mounts populated lets us compare cards under identical conditions.

All system fans are set to around 780 rpm. I opted instead for a top-of-the-line air cooler, the Noctua NH-D15 G2 LBC in an offset mounting configuration, for two main reasons. First, it offers greater reliability and more predictable long-term cooling performance compared to liquid coolers. Second, it has a smaller impact on case airflow than an AIO.

When CPU load increases, speeding up the radiator fans on an AIO cooler can significantly change the airflow inside the case. With an air cooler, higher CPU fan speeds have much less impact on case airflow. The system fans are set to a fixed speed to maintain constant airflow, making it more suitable for comparing graphics cards under similar conditions.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Our graphics card tests run on an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. At only 8 mm tall and with narrow blades, they are quieter even at higher speeds compared to taller fans with standard blade shapes.

The minimum fan speed that can be manually set is 30%. At that setting, the fans run at just 1000 RPM, and the reading on the sound meter drops to 29.9 dBA – below the device’s measurable threshold. If both cards have similar fan control setups, the cheaper model may not be much louder.

The premium for the Eagle variant will mostly appeal to those who prefer its design over the Windforce and want a similarly compact card. Otherwise, cards with larger triple-fan coolers could offer quieter cooling at a similar price – or, as with the previously reviewed RTX 5060 Ti from Gainward, comparable noise levels for a lower price.

I’m generally not a fan of graphics cards with dual BIOS. They involve more work during testing, and in most cases, a single BIOS—the quieter one—would suffice. But with the Eagle, I found myself really missing the silent mode switch. But with the Eagle, I really missed the option to switch to a quieter mode. With slightly higher temperatures (which the cooler could still handle comfortably), the fan speeds could have been lower, making the card noticeably quieter. That would have given us a compact and reasonably powerful gaming card with a quiet cooler, all for a modest premium.

Of course, you can manually adjust the fan curve yourself, but a switch is just more convenient – you don’t have to worry about configuring anything or making sure custom settings are loaded on startup. At the moment, Nvidia App only allows fixed fan speeds, and to set a custom curve based on temperature, you still need third-party tools. Gigabyte offers the Gigabyte Control Center for this purpose, but not everyone wants to install additional software that runs in the background just for this task.

Overall, I do like the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Eagle OC 16GB – especially its cooler design and engineering. The very short PCB enables efficient cooling in a compact form. Thanks to the unusually placed power connector, you don’t have to route the power cable through the middle of the case – it can stay neatly along the back wall. The only thing you need to be mindful of is securing the card in the PCIe slot. The shortened bracket doesn’t include the usual locking tab, so the card may not sit as firmly in place as with standard-length PCIe connector.

Among compact GPUs, this is one of the better options currently available. The only lingering question is how the similarly designed WindForce 2X model compares – and whether the extra cost for the Eagle is really justified.

English translation and edit by Jozef Dudáš

Pros and cons

+ 16 GB of memory
+ Compact dimensions with good operating characteristics
+ Factory overclocking
+ Cooler is quieter than basic models
+ Solid temperatures, with the option to manually lower fan speeds
+ Support for DLSS 4 and other proprietary Nvidia technologies
+ Significant performance increase in ray tracing compared to the previous generation

– Price/performance ratio is slightly worse than basic models
– Out-of-the-box fan profile could be quieter
– Coil whine is not completely inaudible
– The card runs on eight PCIe 5.0 lanes, and on older boards (especially PCIe 3.0), performance may drop in some scenarios

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards can be purchased in the Datacomp e-store.

Thanks to the lower power consumption of the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and the use of more compact printed circuit boards in the new GeForce RTX 50 series, Gigabyte offers cards with a unique design in the WindForce 2X and Eagle model lines.
