There, it introduced the RX 9060 XT with the new, smaller Navi 44 chip as a competitor to the recently launched GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and GeForce RTX 5060.

The Radeon RX 9060 XT cards are designed for gaming at 1440p and 1080p resolutions. They will be available in two variants with 8 GB and 16 GB of memory. The 8 GB version is suitable for titles and settings that aren’t demanding on video memory and for lower 1080p resolution. It’s ideal for players focused on achieving high frame rates at lower graphic settings – typically how esports games are played. You’ll find the specifications in the table below, so here’s a quick summary – the new Navi 44 chip in the Radeon RX 9060 XT features 2048 stream processors, 128 texture units, and 64 raster units. The memory bus is 128 bits wide and connects the chip to either 8 or 16 GB of GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gb/s.

There likely won’t be many stock-clocked models available; that’s why the table includes specs for factory-overclocked models. Keep in mind that with higher clocks, the power limit also goes up – in the middle column is an example from XFX, whose listed power draw increases from 160 to 180 W. The specs of the 8GB variant are similar to the base 16GB version, but the listed power draw is 10 W lower.

The new Navi 44 GPU is essentially half of the Navi 48 from the higher-end Radeon RX 9070 XT in terms of compute units, memory bus width, and infinity cache size.

The Radeon RX 9060 XT cards are equipped with a PCI Express 5.0 x16 interface. In such a setup, the system has virtually unlimited access to cool ambient air from the surroundings, and the warm air from the graphics card is quickly expelled into the open air. Inside a case, however, the air volume is much smaller. Once components are installed, it becomes necessary to find a balance, tuning the cooling system so that system fans aren’t too noisy, while still ensuring sufficient airflow through the case. Powerful CPUs and GPUs produce a lot of heat, raising the temperature inside the case, and component temperatures are usually higher than under ideal open-bench conditions. This is why results for clocks, temperatures, and noise in such test setups tend to look better than what you’ll see with the same components inside a PC case.

That’s why graphics cards are tested inside a PC case. For this purpose I chose the Fractal Design Meshify 2, featuring one of the most common case layouts and cooling designs. Unlike expensive, oversized cases, its size and price make it suitable for lower- and mid-range GPUs, while still being able to fit and cool even large, power-hungry, high-end graphics cards. In this setup, using a case with all fan mounts populated lets us compare cards under identical conditions.

All system fans are set to around 780 rpm. First, it offers greater reliability and more predictable long-term cooling performance compared to liquid coolers. Second, it has a smaller impact on case airflow than an AIO.

When CPU load increases, speeding up the radiator fans on an AIO cooler can significantly change the airflow inside the case. With an air cooler, higher CPU fan speeds have much less impact on case airflow. Traditional aliasing falls slightly behind in image quality compared to FSR or DLSS in native resolution, i.e., Native AA or DLAA modes.

The image quality varies between anti-aliasing methods, with DLSS currently offering the highest quality, although it’s exclusive to GeForce cards. GeForce owners have no real reason to choose anything other than DLSS. To compare GeForce cards with Radeons, however, all cards are also tested with FSR.

For weaker cards, we include tests at Ultra settings without ray tracing, and for more powerful cards, we also run RT Ultra and RT Overdrive with path tracing.

Global settings Ultra

The lower, Ultra settings are tested mainly for older cards. On high-end cards, performance is bottlenecked by the CPU, so the performance increase doesn’t reflect raw GPU performance. At maximum, the noise level reached 57.4 dBA.

In P mode, under load in the thermal tests, the fans ran at maximum speeds ranging from 1850 to 1950 RPM. That translates to a noise level of around 40.1–42.3 dBA. These are typical values for average cards – no longer quiet, but not excessively loud either. That’s not exactly a compelling reason to pay extra for a TUF model.

But you’d probably choose a TUF card for its quiet cooling. In Q mode, it’s practically a different card in terms of acoustics. Across all tests, maximum fan speeds were between 1140 and 1200 RPM, corresponding to measured noise levels of 30.9–31.3 dBA. At this point, the cooler can be described as exceptionally quiet, although we’ve seen lower RPMs on other Asus cards. A large cooler with three fans, combined with a smaller, more power-efficient GPU, allows the card to deliver excellent cooling and low noise levels. It’s one of the quietest and best-performing RX 9060 XT models available. The only downside is its price, which reaches the level of entry-level GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB cards.

Final thoughts

Performance is practically identical to the model tested yesterday – in P mode it’s slightly higher, in Q mode a bit lower, but the difference is in the tenths of frames per second. That’s within the margin of error, and not something you’d notice visually.

Overall, performance spans the range between the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti depending on the specific game, settings, and the intensity of ray tracing used. In general, it sits closer to the RTX 5060 Ti.

The key question is what the actual retail pricing of the new Radeons will look like. Asus’ MSRP for the reviewed card in the Czech Republic is 11,999 CZK (≈550 USD) . The Prime model is just 500 CZK (≈25 USD) cheaper. Both end up matching the starting price of competing RTX 5060 Ti cards with 16 GB of memory. In terms of performance and feature support, GeForce cards are the more attractive choice at that price point, although basic models will likely have worse thermals and acoustics. That’s where the TUF card shines, especially in Q mode.

You probably wouldn’t pay extra for the TUF Radeon RX 9060 XT based on its P mode performance. Higher fan speeds do yield marginal FPS gains, but at the cost of noticeably higher noise levels. That puts it in the same category as average cards where the manufacturer didn’t cut corners but also didn’t go above and beyond. Which undermines the reason to pay more – especially since the Pulse AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT tested yesterday was significantly quieter and considerably cheaper.

In Q mode, however, the story flips. The fans run at very low RPMs, and the cooler’s noise drops to levels where in critical moments you’ll hear the coil whine more than the fans themselves. If you’re chasing the quietest experience possible, you’ll be more focused on keeping FPS limits in check to avoid the coils whining too much. That’s a common situation among today’s high-performance GPUs with quiet cooling.

But top-tier cooling comes at a premium. It’s likely we’ll see cards that aren’t much noisier but cost less. Ultimately, what matters most is how the pricing evolves after launch.

English translation and edit by Jozef Dudáš

Pros and Cons

+ 16 GB paměti
+ Excellent thermal and acoustic performance
+ Factory overclock
+ Exceptionally quiet cooling, coil whine becomes the bigger issue
+ Option to raise power limit for overclocking

– Premium price over base models and a noticeably worse price/performance ratio
– RTX 5060 Ti pulls ahead in ray tracing-heavy scenarios
– 8GB RX 9060 XT models offer a better price/performance ratio in most current games

AMD Radeon graphics cards are available in the Datacomp e-store.

⠀
<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block;background-color:transparent"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-8150419924824893"
     data-ad-slot="6522017574"
     data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

At the top of Asus’ new Radeon lineup is the TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB GDDR6 OC Edition.
