We\u2019ll take a look at the top one \u2013 the 16GB Gaming OC model with factory overclocking. It features a Windforce cooler with three fans and delivers a step above the basics in both cooling and noise levels. It&#8217;s priced right in the middle compared to other models, and the same goes for its features \u2013 it may not match premium cards, but it\u2019s clear that Gigabyte didn\u2019t cut corners to save costs.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>While Nvidia has been launching one GeForce model after another for several months, AMD took a break following the release of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, saving the unveiling of its next RX 9000-series Radeon for Computex. There, it introduced the RX 9060 XT with the new, smaller Navi 44 chip as a competitor to the recently launched GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and GeForce RTX\u00a05060.<\/p>\n<p>The Radeon RX 9060 XT cards are designed for gaming at 1440p and 1080p resolutions. They will be available in two variants with 8 GB and 16 GB of memory. The 8 GB version is suitable for titles and settings that aren\u2019t demanding on video memory and for lower 1080p resolution. It\u2019s ideal for players focused on achieving high frame rates at lower graphic settings \u2013 typically how esports games are played. The more expensive 16 GB version is better suited for 1080p and 1440p gaming with high-quality graphics, including ray tracing.<\/p>\n<p>The key innovations and changes that the new generation of Radeons, including the RX 9060 XT, bring compared to the RX 7000 series include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Improved ray tracing:<\/strong> The third generation of RT accelerators offers double the performance compared to the previous generation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Enhanced AI acceleration:<\/strong> Second-generation AI accelerators with significantly higher performance per unit and support for new data types such as FP8<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4):<\/strong> Advanced supersampling and frame generation using AI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These new technologies and improvements introduced with the latest Radeons are discussed in more detail in our article dedicated to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwcooling.net\/en\/better-more-capable-than-expected-rdna-4-architecture-deep-dive\/\">RDNA4 architecture<\/a>, which we published alongside the release of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070.<\/p>\n<p>We also already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwcooling.net\/amd-odhalilo-radeon-rx-9060-xt-s-navi-44-oficialni-specifikace\/\">covered the basic specs of the Navi 44 and the RX 9060 XT<\/a> at the cards\u2019 unveiling. You\u2019ll find the specifications in the table below, so here\u2019s a quick summary \u2013 the new Navi 44 chip in the Radeon RX 9060 XT features 2048 stream processors, 128 texture units, and 64 raster units. The memory bus is 128 bits wide and connects the chip to either 8 or 16 GB of GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gb\/s.<\/p>\n<p>There likely won\u2019t be many stock-clocked models available; that\u2019s why the table includes specs for factory-overclocked models. Keep in mind that with higher clocks, the power limit also goes up \u2013 in the middle column is an example from XFX, whose listed power draw increases from 160 to 180 W. The specs of the 8GB variant are similar to the base 16GB version, but the listed power draw is 10 W lower.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwcooling.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/amd-radeon-rx-9060-xt-specs.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"670\" height=\"627\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new Navi 44 GPU is essentially half of the Navi 48 from the higher-end Radeon RX 9070 XT in terms of compute units, memory bus width, and infinity cache size.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwcooling.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt-specs.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"670\" height=\"625\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Radeon RX 9060 XT cards are equipped with a PCI Express 5.0 x16 interface. In this regard, they have an edge over their direct Nvidia counterparts, which have a PCIe 5.0 interface trimmed down to just eight lanes. In certain scenarios, this could result in a smaller performance drop when the card is installed in older motherboards with PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 interfaces.<\/p>\n<p>To the two tested Radeon RX 9060 XT cards from Sapphire and Asus, we\u2019re adding the top-tier model from Gigabyte\u2019s RX 9060 XT lineup.<\/p>\n<h2>Gigabyte Radeon RX 9060 XT Gaming OC 16G (GV-r9060xtgaming-oc-16GD)<\/h2>\n<p>Gigabyte currently offers only Radeon RX 9060 XT cards in the Gaming series. There are four variants \u2013 two 8GB models, Gaming and Gaming OC, and two 16GB models, again Gaming and Gaming OC.<\/p>\n<p>The OC suffix indicates that the card comes factory overclocked. The game clock is raised from the reference 2530 MHz to 2780 MHz, and the boost clock is increased from up to 3130 MHz to 3320 MHz. On the back of the box, Gigabyte highlights its proprietary solutions used on the card. The Windforce cooling system, which consists of new fans, a heatsink with a large copper base cooling both the GPU and memory, and \u201cscreen cooling\u201d technology \u2013 Gigabyte\u2019s term for the pass-through fin array on the heatsink. The middle fan spins in the opposite direction. Where the blades of adjacent impellers meet, they don\u2019t clash but instead push air in the same direction. It features a Windforce cooler with three fans and delivers a step above the basics in both cooling and noise levels. It&#8217;s priced right in the middle compared to other models, and the same goes for its features \u2013 it may not match premium cards, but it\u2019s clear that Gigabyte didn\u2019t cut corners to save costs.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Test build<\/h2>\n<p>Reviewers usually test the performance, thermals, and noise of graphics cards on open-air test benches. In such a setup, the system has virtually unlimited access to cool ambient air from the surroundings, and the warm air from the graphics card is quickly expelled into the open air. Inside a case, however, the air volume is much smaller. Once components are installed, it becomes necessary to find a balance, tuning the cooling system so that system fans aren\u2019t too noisy, while still ensuring sufficient airflow through the case. Powerful CPUs and GPUs produce a lot of heat, raising the temperature inside the case, and component temperatures are usually higher than under ideal open-bench conditions.  This is why results for clocks, temperatures, and noise in such test setups tend to look better than what you&rsquo;ll see with the same components inside a PC case.<\/p>\n<p>That&rsquo;s why graphics cards are tested inside a PC case.  For this purpose I chose the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fractal-design.com\/products\/cases\/meshify\/meshify-2\/black-solid\/\">Fractal Design Meshify 2<\/a><\/strong>, featuring one of the most common case layouts and cooling designs. Unlike expensive, oversized cases, its size and price make it suitable for lower- and mid-range GPUs, while still being able to fit and cool even large, power-hungry, high-end graphics cards. Second, it has a smaller impact on case airflow than an AIO. <\/p>\n<p>When CPU load increases, speeding up the radiator fans on an AIO cooler can significantly change the airflow inside the case. With an air cooler, higher CPU fan speeds have much less impact on case airflow. It provides sufficient cores for virtually all current titles, maintains high clock speeds, and delivers strong single-core performance. While it may not lead the charts in every benchmark, it consistently ranks among the best overall.  It has a single CCD fitted with 3D V-Cache, which all cores can access directly. Unlike higher-end models, it does not suffer from latency when switching between chiplets. In games, it can make more efficient use of its thermal envelope (TDP). It largely depends on the specific game and configuration. Overall, it aligns more closely with the 16 GB RTX 5060 Ti, but average performance is a few percent lower. It performs better in games without ray tracing or with only light ray tracing \u2013 the more intensive the ray tracing, the better the GeForce cards perform.<\/p>\n<p>This means that to be a better deal, it needs to be proportionally cheaper than the RTX 5060 Ti. Whether that\u2019s the case depends more on the pricing of the models you\u2019re choosing between. It may also come down to how much you value Nvidia\u2019s proprietary technologies.<\/p>\n<p>AMD offers alternatives that are continuously improving, and the number of supported titles is growing rapidly (FSR4, which now uses AI-based upscaling on RX 9000 series Radeons similar to DLSS, is already <a href=\"https:\/\/community.amd.com\/t5\/gaming-discussions\/latest-amd-fsr-2-3-4-amp-radeon-anti-lag-2-supported-games-list\/m-p\/549534\">supported in over 60 titles<\/a> and more are on the way). Still, Nvidia generally holds the lead in both upscaling quality and the number of supported games. And for multi-frame generation, AMD currently lacks a competing solution \u2013 it can only generate one frame at a time.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s see how the Gigabyte Radeon stacks up against the two models we\u2019ve already tested. The comparison with the TUF card is quick \u2013 Asus\u2019s model is better equipped and offers superior cooling and acoustic performance, but it\u2019s also significantly more expensive. It costs about 50 EUR more than the Gigabyte, which makes the RX 9060 XT Gaming OC<br \/>\nclearly the more appealing option in terms of price\/performance ratio.<\/p>\n<p>The more serious competitor is Sapphire\u2019s Pulse. While the RX 9060 XT Gaming OC has one more fan than the Pulse RX 9060 XT we tested at launch, there\u2019s little difference in cooling and noise levels. The pair of larger 9 cm fans and the wider heatsink on the Pulse manage to achieve similar results.<\/p>\n<p>The Gigabyte card is only slightly noisier than the cheaper Pulse from Sapphire. The difference is small, about 2\u20133 dBA, which you likely won\u2019t notice unless you have both cards side by side. It could also be said that what the Gigabyte gives up in noise, it gains back in lower temperatures. Still, I wouldn&#8217;t draw definitive conclusions based on testing just one unit of each model \u2013 there could be variations between individual cards.<\/p>\n<p>On average, the Gigabyte is slightly faster, but the performance difference is usually only around 0.5\u20131%, which certainly doesn\u2019t justify the price difference \u2013 the 16 GB Pulse RX 9060 XT is currently available for 400 EUR, while the 16 GB Radeon RX 9060 XT Gaming OC from Gigabyte costs 444 EUR. That is equivalent in price to the premium Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 9060 XT, from which you can expect better operating characteristics than the basic Pulse. Compared to the Pulse RX 9060 XT, Gigabyte\u2019s only significant advantage is in lighting \u2013 it\u2019s not a full light show, but the Pulse has no LEDs at all.<\/p>\n<p>At current prices, with only minor performance differences and similar cooling and noise levels, the Pulse from Sapphire offers slightly better value. Ultimately, it may depend on the availability of lower-priced models and how pricing develops \u2013 many retailers are still offering launch prices, and Gigabyte\u2019s Gaming series Radeons often end up in a similar price range to more basic models. .
