They will be available in two variants with 8 GB and 16 GB of memory. The 8 GB version is suitable for titles and settings that aren’t demanding on video memory and for lower 1080p resolution. It’s ideal for players focused on achieving high frame rates at lower graphic settings—typically how esports games are played. The more expensive 16 GB version is better suited for 1080p and 1440p gaming with high-quality graphics, including ray tracing.

The key innovations and changes that the new generation of Radeons, including the RX 9060 XT, bring compared to the RX 7000 series include:

Improved ray tracing: The third generation of RT accelerators offers double the performance compared to the previous generation.

Enhanced AI acceleration: Second-generation AI accelerators with significantly higher performance per unit and support for new data types such as FP8.

FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4): Advanced supersampling and frame generation using AI.

These new technologies and improvements introduced with the latest Radeons are discussed in more detail in our article dedicated to the RDNA4 architecture, which we published alongside the release of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070.

We also already covered the basic specs of the Navi 44 and the RX 9060 XT at the cards’ unveiling. You’ll find the specifications in the table below, so here’s a quick summary—the new Navi 44 chip in the Radeon RX 9060 XT features 2048 stream processors, 128 texture units, and 64 raster units. The memory bus is 128 bits wide and connects the chip to either 8 or 16 GB of GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gb/s.

There likely won’t be many stock-clocked models available; that’s why the table includes specs for factory-overclocked models. Keep in mind that with higher clocks, the power limit also goes up—in the middle column is an example from XFX, whose listed power draw increases from 160 to 180 W. If you’re building a PC for gaming at the lower 1080p and 1440p resolutions and care about aesthetics, it’s certainly worth considering.

Test build

Reviewers usually test the performance, thermals, and noise of graphics cards on open-air test benches. In such a setup, the system has virtually unlimited access to cool ambient air from the surroundings, and the warm air from the graphics card is quickly expelled into the open air. Inside a case, however, the air volume is much smaller. Once components are installed, it becomes necessary to find a balance, tuning the cooling system so that system fans aren’t too noisy, while still ensuring sufficient airflow through the case. Powerful CPUs and GPUs produce a lot of heat, raising the temperature inside the case, and component temperatures are usually higher than under ideal open-bench conditions. This is why results for clocks, temperatures, and noise in such test setups tend to look better than what you’ll see with the same components inside a PC case.

That’s why graphics cards are tested inside a PC case. For this purpose I chose the Fractal Design Meshify 2, featuring one of the most common case layouts and cooling designs. Unlike expensive, oversized cases, its size and price make it suitable for lower- and mid-range GPUs, while still being able to fit and cool even large power-hungry high-end graphics cards. In this setup, using a case with all fan mounts populated lets us compare cards under identical conditions.

All system fans are set to around 780 RPM. First, it offers greater reliability and more predictable long-term cooling performance compared to liquid coolers. Traditional aliasing falls slightly behind in image quality compared to FSR or DLSS in native resolution, i.e., Native AA or DLAA modes.

The image quality varies between anti-aliasing methods, with DLSS currently offering the highest quality, although it’s exclusive to GeForce cards. GeForce owners have no real reason to choose anything other than DLSS. To compare GeForce cards with Radeons, however, all cards are also tested with FSR.

For weaker cards, we include tests at Ultra settings without ray tracing, and for more powerful cards, we also run RT Ultra and RT Overdrive with path tracing.

Global settings Ultra

The lower, Ultra settings are tested mainly for older cards. On high-end cards, performance is bottlenecked by the CPU, so the performance increase doesn’t reflect raw GPU performance. This corresponds to fan speeds ranging from approximately 540–3900 RPM (29.2–55.3 dBA). At minimum speeds, the fans were inaudible. Under load, after temperatures stabilized, the speeds hovered around 1600–1800 RPM. The card exhibits the behavior typical of Radeon fan control, where upon an increase in load, the fans ramp up to higher speeds and then gradually slow down. Paradoxically, this makes the card quieter under a steady load than when the load varies. This is clearly visible in the graph from the Metro benchmark, where with each loop start, the fans ramp up to 1860 RPM and gradually decrease to around 1560 RPM, at which point the noise level is only about 32.2 dBA and the card is very quiet.

In Cyberpunk, the fan speeds after stabilization were higher, reaching values around 1750 RPM, at which the card’s total noise level reaches about 33.4 dBA.

Occasional ‘teeth’ are visible in the fan speed graphs below. Judging by the airy perforation on the side of the shroud, it appears the designers also considered vertically mounted cards in glass showpiece cases.

However, the suggested price for the RX 9060 XT starts a fair bit lower, necessitating cuts in manufacturing costs. Some features took the hit. The stylish mesh on the shroud was replaced by a plastic imitation, and even the power cable is no longer hidden away as it is on the more powerful model.

Thus, the card installed in a case doesn’t look as clean, with the power cable routed from its middle. But I don’t see this purely as a negative. On the Nitro+ RX 9070 XT, hiding the cable in the rear part of the cooler under the backplate compromised cooling.

The power cable with the Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT OC

On the Nitro+ RX 9060 XT, the rear section of the heatsink remains freely pass-through. The cooler can be quieter at the same temperatures than it would be with the foam padding used on the higher-end model.

The noise level values measured with the sound level meter didn’t fully correspond to what I’m used to. Typically, cards measuring under 34 dBA are inaudible to me from a two-meter distance; subjectively, the cooler’s noise didn’t match the measured value.

With the Nitro+ RX 9060 XT, a deeper tone from the fans was audible. This was caused by their higher noise output at frequencies around 210 Hz, which didn’t translate heavily into the overall dBA reading. However, the cooler can be quieted by manually lowering the fan speeds. Regarding temperatures, it has sufficient headroom for you to quiet it down. Under load, there’s also a faint coil whine audible, but its buzz isn’t as pronounced as on more powerful cards—in this regard as well, the card can be counted among the quieter ones.

The price of basic 16GB RX 9060 XT models starts at 370 EUR. For the Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT OC, you’ll pay about 25 EUR more. It is marginally better in every aspect than the previously tested Pulse AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT, but the differences are rather negligible—temperatures are 2–4 °C lower, noise is about 1 dBA less; simply put, it’s nothing you’d notice without measurements. Therefore, if you’re looking for a card with a good price/performance ratio and don’t need the colorful LEDs, the cheaper 16GB Pulse variant will definitely be a more advantageous choice. The Pulse RX 9060 XT OC itself already offers excellent characteristics, and with the Nitro+, you won’t significantly improve in that regard.

If you also care about how the card looks and how it will stand out behind the glass side panel of a lit-up build, then you probably won’t mind paying that extra money.

Sapphire Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT OC (11350-01-20G)

+ 16 GB of memory
+ Performance sufficient for 1080p and 1440p (optionally with FSR)
+ Slightly higher performance due to factory overclocking
+ Excellent thermals
+ Quiet cooling (but not inaudible)
+ Design, above-standard ARGB lighting
+ Headroom for tuning the fan curve, potential for further quieting
+ Low power consumption compared to more powerful models

− Premium over basic models, worse price/performance ratio
− Fans are not completely inaudible with default fan curve settings
− Limited to three display outputs
– The 8GB RX 9060 XT offers a better price/performance ratio in most current games

Approximate retail price incl.
