Noctua is behind schedule, new 140mm fans have been delayed

Release of Noctua's 140mm next-gen fans postponed

This is not entirely new information. On the contrary, the news that Noctua won’t release 140mm fans made of “sterrox” this year after all is quite old. Still, it disappeared on Twitter among other posts, and the reach to the public is quite small. We, too, have only now gotten around to the delay of Noctua’s long-awaited fans. So if you’re still waiting and hoping, know that they won’t be coming this year, for certain.

Back in October, it looked like a new generation of 140mm Noctua fans would be coming out towards the end of the year. In the end, it won’t happen and you will have to wait some time for them. Noctua has published an official statement with such a conclusion, as they usually do, rather inconspicuously on the social network Twitter.

The answer to the user question when the new generation of 140 mm fans will be released came quite quickly, already on November 19. Unfortunately, the answer is not very satisfying and at the moment the only thing that is certain is that the fans will be released next year at the earliest. We believe that from its start, in the first quarter, but that’s just wishful thinking. A new planning date will only become apparent once the current roadmap is updated. The one on Noctua’s site is still from October, where these fans still figure in Q4/2022.

The reasons why things aren’t going as planned were revealed to us by Noctua, but we agreed not to elaborate on them at this time. However, we have already hinted in a previous report at the circumstances that could jeopardize the optimistic dates and the “dark” scenarios have finally come true.

To conclude on a positive note for now, let’s remind ourselves that the new 140 mm fans will most likely be made of sterrox (at least their rotors), which is an LCP-based material. This is significantly stronger than the PBT, albeit it’s reinforced with fiberglass, as in the current 140mm NF-A14(s) and NF-A15 models. The new ones will thus be one of the few fans with this cross-section to have such a strong rotor, among other aerodynamic details. And it won’t just be enlarged NF-A12x25 PWMs.

Whether the upcoming 140mm fans have been delayed a month or half a year will only be hinted at by Noctua’s updated product release schedule, which Noctua keeps at this link.
