Impressive Scythe design
Scythe coolers are one of the best in their category and, except for Ninja 3, they are holding their position firmly. It is difficult to find anything more effective than Scythe Fuma under 50 euros. And it looks like that things are about to get even more interesting. The latest model is named after the warships used in the 17th century by the Shimazu family. So, perhaps we will meet the new champion soon.
It apparently pays off for Scythe to concentrate solely on CPU coolers, mostly on 40 – 50 EUR price category. Tests of previous models indicate that Japanese engineers are determined to keep improving the efficiency/noise ratio of heatsinks and reach the physical limitations.
What is also appealing is that Scythe does not follow current trends of various light and colour effects, and the main priority remains functional, not visual, design. Sengoku Bune is the second cooler (after Fuma) that opens a new series in a short time. We believe and hope that mass production will be bigger this time than that of Fuma. But we cannot expect the numbers of Ninja or Mugen that have a much greater popularity.
The Sengoku Bune heatsink is not high nor small. This means that the height of 156 mm will not limit the area of ribs, and at the same time it will not collide in cases with a sidewall. Thanks to the base turned closer to RAM and PCI Express, 100% compatibility is ensured with both memory modules and a graphics card in the first slot.
The fan might bring also something new. It will be a 120mm format with a range of 400-1,400 rpm (PWM). We are curious about the price. Judging by the parameters, we estimate that it could finally be a worthy opponent for Fera 3. The weight is “only” 500 g, which is 30% less than Mugen 5, and Sengoku Bune is also a centimeter narrower. Thus wider rib separation and particularly efficient cooling with lower flow can be expected. The design of (6mm) heatpipes looks quite reasonable, what do you think?
We do not know much about availability yet. It is not clear whether the cooler will ever reach Europe. Speculation arises that Sengoku Bune will be sold only in East Asia. We’ll find out and add any new information on this cooler in comments. We’ve asked the manufacturer for one test sample already, so it is quite possible that the review will come soon.
