Pure Wings 3, the cheaper BeQuiet! fans, now available

BeQuiet! Pure Wings 3

The Pure Wings 3 fans, which have appeared as part of some coolers and cases in the past, are now also available separately. With a price of 14–15 euros (per piece), these are the cheapest BeQuiet! fans, if we focus the choice on models with “modern” geometry. The latter also heralds an attractive price to “cooling performance” ratio. And that’s in both 120 mm and 140 mm formats.

You may have already encountered BeQuiet’s new fans – Pure Wings 3 – on the Pure Loop 2 coolers or the Shadow Base 800 case, for example. But the option to buy them separately only comes from today (7. 11. 2023).

The Pure Wings series is the lowest-end BeQuiet has among fans. Pure Wings 3 will thus be a replacement or alternative to Pure Wings 2. The new Pure Wings (3) fans come in six different variants. Three are 120 mm and three are 140 mm. Of those three, two always support PWM control and one is DC (i.e. with a 3-pin connector only). With the latter, there is thus only the possibility to change the speed by changing the linear voltage, with the other variants the regulation is pulse-based.

If we focus on PWM models, there is always one slower and one faster (high-speed) variant across formats. In terms of 120mm fans, this means that the slower one (BL105) officially tops out at 1600 rpm, while for the high-speed one (BL106) it’s 2100 rpm. The 140mm Pure Wings 3 fans are slower – with a maximum of 1200 rpm (BL108) and 1800 rpm (BL109) respectively – but still, because of the larger cross-section, they are supposed to achieve higher airflow at a lower noise level.

The maximum airflow of the Pure Wings 3 140mm fans is advertised at 97.5 and 122.6m3/hr. For the 120-millimeter ones, it is 84.8 and 101.2 m3/h.

It is important to add that the high-speed variants use a different rotor shape with nine blades instead of seven, which is the number used with the slower models. Systematically, this is nothing new, and BeQuiet’s Light Wings fans, among others, are no different. Pure Wings 3 are also geometrically based on the latter in terms of the rotor, with the difference of a larger active cross-section. Pure Wings 3 have larger blades, which are a bit shorter on the Light Wings fans due to the implementation of the ARGB LED light guide. Pure Wings 3 do not have this, making room for more airflow at the same speed. With the high-speed variants, BeQuiet! also emphasizes achieving high static pressure, which naturally makes sense given the “dense” rotor design.

The third, DC variants (BL104/120 mm and BL107/140 mm) geometrically and speed-wise replicate the “slower” Pure Wings 3 PWM, but optimized for a different (linear) type of voltage regulation.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices are 13.90 EUR (for all 120 mm models) and 14.90 EUR (for 140 mm models). You can already find Pure Wings 3 fans on Amazon, for example.
