AMD Radeon RX 6800 test: More affordable “Big Navi”

The Radeon RX 6800 is the cheapest graphics card equipped with a Navi 21 graphics chip. That is naturally slower in this card than in the RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT, but the RX 6800 clearly offers the most attractive price/performance ratio of the three. And the power draw is also not bad, the efficiency is remarkably very decent here, despite the large, partially deactivated core. However, some flaws can be found on the AMD reference card. Radeon AI upscaling alternative to DLSS coming this spring?

Radeon graphics cards currently have one disadvantage: they do not support Nvidia’s DLSS AI upscaling technology, which significantly increases FPS in exchange for some (hopefully slight) quality loss. AMD announced development of its own alternative when RX 6000 cards lanched, but it was not clear how long it would take. It may come relatively soon, as a big driver update is coming in the spring and “AMDLSS” could be part of it. Read more “Radeon AI upscaling alternative to DLSS coming this spring?” »

RX 6800 XT vs. RTX 3080. Part 2/2: Non-gaming tests

Without application/computational tests, graphics card tests would be incomplete. Therefore, we will focus on this area outside of gaming that most hardware magazines neglect. We understand the reasons, there are several of them, but even so, it is possible with a little effort to make at least a few measurements. So hopefully they will also help multimedia creators in choosing the right graphics card. Read more “RX 6800 XT vs. RTX 3080. Part 2/2: Non-gaming tests” »

ClockTuner for Ryzen 2.0: Hybrid OC for max MT and ST performance

ClockTuner for Ryzen, an app which automatically finds safe voltages and overclocks for Ryzen processors to improve performance, is now getting a new version. It is completely redesigned and introduces support for the new Ryzen 5000 “Vermeer” processors with Zen 3 architecture as well as Ryzen 4000G APUs. The main new feature is a completely new method of OC that maximizes both ST and MT performance, something not possible before. Duel: Radeon RX 6800 XT vs. GeForce RTX 3080 (part 1/2)

Eighteen selection games in various resolutions and settings, performance tests in computing applications, detailed analysis of power draw and generated sound, in which we go up to the level of frequency responses. This captures the new robust methodology for graphics card testing. And right at the beginning, popular high-end models from both camps are going to undergo the tests. Laptop AMD Ryzen 5000 is here. Zen 3 and clock up to 4.8 GHz

We’ve already covered Intel’s news from CES 2021, (10nm Jasper Lake, Tiger Lake-H35 and Rocket Lake desktop) and now it’s time to turn to AMD’s showings at the virtual event. The company unveiled the expected Ryzen 5000 mobile processors which brings the Zen 3 architecture to laptops. They are based on the Cezanne APU and should come to notebooks from next month on. We already have the specifications of 15 and 45W(+) models. Read more “Laptop AMD Ryzen 5000 is here. Zen 3 and clock up to 4.8 GHz” »

Radeon RX 6700 & RX 6700 XT launch expected at end of March

Last autumn, the long-awaited new generation of graphics cards arrived, but at the start Nvidia and AMD have only released the more expensive SKUs. Now, in the winter and spring months of 2021, cheaper cards are finally supposed to arrive too. It seems that new cards belonging to the Radeon RX 6000 hierarchy should appear in about two and a half months, and both will build on the Navi 22 chip. AGESA 1.1.9.0 update coming to Ryzen: AMD lists the new features

If you’re running an AMD Ryzen processor, you’re probably familiar with updating the so-called AGESA code, which is built into (and updated with) the motherboard’s BIOS. This can improve performance on newly released AMD processors and also fix various bugs. Such an update is now being prepared for the new Ryzen 5000 with AM4 architecture: AGESA 1.1.9.0 should bring several improvements, including in stability. ASRock supports Zen 3 on X370/B350/A320 chipset motherboards

Ryzen 5000 only worked on X570, B550 and A520 chipsets initially, and 400-series chipsets are only now receiving support. Even these were not planned to get it at first, so support on even older 300-series chipsets seemed impossible for a long time. But here’s the good news: in the end, such an upgrade may work. It seems ASRock released BIOS updates for their X370, B350 and A320 motherboards that add support for the new Zen 3 processors. AMD Ryzen 3 3300X – when cheaper Matisse is not enough

The duel of Ryzen 3 3100 and Intel Core i3-10100 processors showed that AMD can beat Intel in most tests at a lower price. However, the R3 3100 is not the only new model introduced by the manufacturer. The 3300X is more powerful, with higher clock speed and, coincidentally, it also sells for the same price as the Ci3-10100. In addition to significantly higher clock speed, it also has different CCD composition. Read more “AMD Ryzen 3 3300X – when cheaper Matisse is not enough” »

Duel of processors: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 vs. Intel Core i3-10100

A year has passed since the introduction of AMD’s Ryzen third generation, but the product line was still not complete. We were waiting for the lowest line to be refreshed with the designation Ryzen 3. In the meantime, the 10th generation of Intel Core processors has been released, including new i3 SKUs. We got novelties from both manufacturers, namely Ryzen 3 3100 and Core i3-10100. Which one is better? Read more “Duel of processors: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 vs. Intel Core i3-10100” »

Intel Core i7-10700K: lower digit, lower price, higher performance?

In the latest Core i9-10900K test, we found it to be great for high fps games, but the power draw, price and performance are not as good as the competition, AMD, offers. Intel still maintained its lead in games, but the 10900K is definitely not an ideal processor. If games are your priority, the alternative may be the Core i7-10700K which is actually just a redesignated and slightly modified Core i9-9900K. ClockTuner for Ryzen auto-tunes performance and power draw

Overclocking and tweaking performance on Ryzen is not an easy thing because, compared to the automatic boost, it cannot often squeeze too much extra and silicon does not have large reserves. But if you are not satisfied with a “stock” processor, you will now be able to use automated OC. The new ClockTuner tool will allow you to automatically undervolt Ryzen 3000 CPUs or automatically overclock them, separately for both CCX blocks. NUC with 10nm Cannon Lake processors and Radeon GPU

Minicomputers and NUC barebones from Intel is nothing new. But this year, there will be an interesting innovation: a model with dedicated graphics card. Not in the style of high-end Hades Canyon (Kaby Lake-G with Vega GPU) of course. It’s going to be NUC with a cheaper Radeon in some classic chassis, and the price will be lower. This model will probably be one of the first computers with 10nm Intel processors – which may be related. Read more “NUC with 10nm Cannon Lake processors and Radeon GPU” »

Ryzen iGPU and the return of thermal compounds

AMD has released the first Ryzen desktop processors with iGPU this week. APU Ryzen 5 2400G and Ryzen 3 2200G could be attractive for compact computers because it’s easier to cool a single heat source than to cool both CPU and GPU, and the integrated graphics cards of these processors should have performance equal to GeForce GT 1030. However, it also means that the old enemy has returned, thermal compounds. Read more “Ryzen iGPU and the return of thermal compounds” »
