Tiny 36 mm Jonsbo HP400S is to handle up to 140 W processors

Small top-flow cooler with ambitions for large processors

A new hero is coming to the world of minimalist computers. Its height is equivalent to average memory modules, and its cooling performance is supposed to handle even Ryzen 9 5000. This is just about trusting the specifications for now, but the Jonsbo cooler has the prerequisites for it. A small radiator with densely packed fins, even heat loss distribution by four heatpipes and a high-pressure fan.

For very narrow computer cases, the selection of coolers is quite limited. Especially if it is a format with a width that exceeds the back panel literally only by the width of the sheet metal. You can find some coolers for such cases, but the cooling capabilities of the vast majority of them end up matching lower end processors.

Not even the Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 can keep up with the base clock speeds of the Ryzen 5 (Matisse and Vermeer).. The newcomer Jonsbo, however, shouldn’t worry. According to the specs, the cooling capacity ends up at 140 W, which the Ryzen 9 5900X and 5950X can fit into under full load (without PBO). Naturally, this will likely be at maximum rpm, accompanied by higher noise levels.

The fan reaches speeds of up to 3,000 rpm (with the lower limit being around 800), which you just won’t be able to ignore. On the other hand, it’s still a smaller 90mm fan with a profile lowered to 15mm, so even at the highest speed, the noise level won’t be as dramatically high as it would be with a larger fan at the same speed. The airflow of the HP400S fan is quoted at 82.06 m3/h and a static pressure level of up to 3.24mm H2O is particularly noteworthy here. This is almost three times more than the dimensionally similar Thermalright AXP90-X36 with a significantly lower TDP. To complete the information about the fan, it should be added that it uses hydraulic bearings.

The radiator consists of 40 aluminum fins. These are intersected by four heatpipes with direct contact with the processor’s IHS. Details reveal that between the two tubes closest to the CPU chip, there is a smaller gap than there is in the spacing of the two outermost tubes. This could be a good compromise for all types of processors. Both the ones that heat up the most in the middle (typically Intel’s current processors, including Alder Lake) and chiplet Ryzens. For those, only the I/O chip is centered and the processor core chips are on the left/right.

The overall dimensions of the HP400S are 36 (H) × 103 (L) × 92 (W) mm with a weight of 380 grams. In addition to AMD AM4, Intel LGA 1700, 1200 and 115x platforms are also supported. Jonsbo is saving the public announcement of the recommended price for a later date. We don’t know anything about the planned availability yet either. However, the cooler’s product pages are already complete, so hopefully it comes to stores soon.

Noctua: New 140 mm fans to premiere on a CPU cooler

Noctua’s long-awaited next-gen fans in the 140mm format have experienced a setback in their planned release, but they also haven’t. They have indeed been delayed from the second to third quarter of 2024 in terms of standalone availability, but they should be out soon together with the cooler that replaces the NH-D15 at the top of the lineup. In addition, it’s also been somewhat declassified which of the “older” projects is nearing completion. Read more “Noctua: New 140 mm fans to premiere on a CPU cooler” »

Endorfy Fera 5 Black – Bestseller on the way to darkness

Today marks the launch of a new version of the popular Endorfy Fera 5 cooler, with the Black attribute. The name suggests that this cooler has a matte black finish, which will be appreciated especially by fans of minimalist PC builds. Of course, it will have to be tested whether this finish has a negative effect on cooling efficiency or whether there is any deterioration in acoustics. So let’s venture into the dark future of Endorfy coolers together. Read more “Endorfy Fera 5 Black – Bestseller on the way to darkness” »

Display on a CPU cooler: DeepCool AK620 Digital preview

For coolers (but also cases) with the Digital attribute, DeepCool creates a built-in display. Its implementation is minimalist in spirit, doesn’t increase the price significantly, and can be considered useful. With regard to monitoring CPU temperatures and load intensity, it’s a thematic value added, which we’ll now look at in the context of the powerful AK620 (Digital) dual-tower cooler.
