AMD Ryzen 3 3300X – when cheaper Matisse is not enough

Rating

The duel of Ryzen 3 3100 and Intel Core i3-10100 processors showed that AMD can beat Intel in most tests at a lower price. However, the R3 3100 is not the only new model introduced by the manufacturer. The 3300X is more powerful, with higher clock speed and, coincidentally, it also sells for the same price as the Ci3-10100. In addition to significantly higher clock speed, it also has different CCD composition.

AMD Ryzen 3 3300X is not just an overclocked Ryzen 3 3100. The difference between these processors is also below the surface in the configuration of chiplets. The R3 3300X therefore has a lower latency between the individual cores which is also reflected in the performance. On average, we saw about a 10% increase in single-core compared to 3100 which is certainly not negligible.

Core i3-10100 with the same price has it even harder. In the multi-core test it also lagged behind by 25% and even game tests at many fps were no longer fully in its hands. Here, too, the 3300X was able to compete with it. The only advantage of the 10100 is the still integrated graphics which none of these Ryzen CPUs has. So you always have to pair AMD with a dedicated graphics card which means higher costs for office PCs. The Core i3 also has a surprisingly lower power draw and temperature which can be useful if you want to put the processor in a small case with passive cooling, for example. In any other case, and especially if you are building a PC for gaming and work, AMD offers significantly higher performance for the same money.

Windows 11 stops working on more processors, requires SSE4.2

This year, the vague uncertainty about Windows 11 not supporting older computers turned into reality, as the OS began using the POPCNT instruction, causing it to stop working on many processors. However, this was not all and the requirements may increase further. In fact, now Windows 11 is starting to require additional instruction set extensions that will shut down more processor families, including Phenoms and the first APUs. RDNA 4 Radeon GPUs: specs and performance of both chips leaked

Previously, new GPU generations were coming in 2-year cycles, which would mean a launch this fall. However, Nvidia’s roadmap has put the GeForce RTX 5000 launch into 2025 some time ago. AMD is still unclear on the launch date of Radeon RX 8000s, but there’s some chance it’s within this year. The specs of these GPUs using RDNA 4 architecture have now surfaced on the internet. If they are real, it might even point to a release relatively soon. Read more “RDNA 4 Radeon GPUs: specs and performance of both chips leaked” »

AMD to produce lowend CPUs and GPUs using Samsung’s 4nm node

Back when the groundbreaking Ryzen processors launched, AMD was still manufacturing almost all of its products at GlobalFoundries, with the exception of chipsets designed by ASMedia. But now, by contrast, it is almost fully tied to the fortunes of TSMC. However, it looks like there could soon be some diversification in place. Samsung-made chips are coming to low-cost processors and they’ll also appear in Radeon graphics cards later. Read more “AMD to produce lowend CPUs and GPUs using Samsung’s 4nm node” »

  1. Sorry you spent time on this. Can you find one for 120 dollars.Im starting to feel amd raging like intel used 2.Gak I should have stayed blue.Bought an a320 with a 3200g to see what the craz was about. Was not bad.I now have the 3200 in a gigabyte b550 and again not bad https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/33156011.Now i see the cheap cpu is no longer cheap.Iwish i had just gone 9400f.
