Selection of Older but Still Relevant Tests (Part 5)

HWC has published several analyses that deserve to be revisited. Although they are not from today—or even yesterday—we still consider them useful in practice. In the past, we tested how HDD vibrations affect noise levels and whether removing the label from an SSD makes sense in terms of cooling efficiency. More recently, HWCooling reached the milestone of one hundred tested fans.

Higher HDD speeds can also be associated with increased noise levels. To what extent is this the case is discussed in the article in which we examined six WD platter-based storage drives.

A common dilemma: Does it make sense to remove the sticker if the intention is to use an SSD cooler? The tests that provide an answer to this question involve measurements with stickers of different thicknesses and made from different materials.

The biggest HWC project—fan testing. The article below provides a comparison of a three-digit number of models. We are still expanding this database, but it can already be described as substantial.
