Philips OLED 807 test with Play-Fi external speaker

Range of settings

Philips offers up to four different OLED models, and after the second highest (907), the cheaper model numbered 807 has made its way to us. However, to avoid repeating the same test over and over again, this time we’ll also focus on DTS Play-Fi technology, using the TAW6205 wireless speaker. Thanks to its WiFi connection, it has several advantages over conventional speakers. This will be discussed as well.

Range of settings

The OLED 807 is no different from the brand’s other models when it comes to the operating system. Once again, it is Android TV 11 with modifications directly from the manufacturer, which are mainly related to settings and built-in applications. However, to avoid repeating the same thing for the third time, I recommend checking out these chapters in the OLED+907 and The One 65PUS8807 tests.

But what we’re going to look at is the Lepší.TV app, which I’ve been using for a while now, and thanks to working with this streaming service, we’ll be able to test how the app works and looks on various platforms.

In the case of the Android TV in the OLED 807, you can find and install the app in Google Play.

Once launched, you have a choice of several packages that you can order. In case you are already using the service, just go to the login.

You can create multiple users within an account that have their own name and icon and can have their own lists and program preferences. This way, each family member can watch different programs and they won’t mix with others.

The content overview offers different filters by type or by what is the source of the videos. In addition to regular TV, depending on the package you’re using, you can also access HBO, where you can also filter movies, shows or kids’ content.

A separate chapter is HBO max, which you also get access to as part of your subscription.

The app also has settings, where you have an overview of your subscription, the ability to manage profiles, edit the display and settings of stations, and the ability to test the quality of your internet connection.

The TV programme list shows you currently playing, past and future programmes on a clear timeline that’s quick and intuitive to navigate. For each programme, you then have a short description and several actions.

You can then select the programme you want to watch from the list and it will be displayed full screen.

In the case of TV shows, for example, you have the option to browse through individual episodes, not just the one that’s currently airing. So if you want to watch a show from the first episode, you have that option.

This is true not only of TV shows aired on our stations but also HBO. Among the popular shows is definitely the Game Of Thrones prequel, which is also present here. In this case, however, I recommend watching via HBO max, where the content is of noticeably better quality.

In addition to TV programmes, Lepší.TV also offers radio, which can be a useful feature for creating atmosphere in the background or for listening to radios from other countries that you wouldn’t normally be able to tune in to.

When you inadvertently press the back button, the app alerts you and gives you the choice of whether you really want to leave the app, which I find really useful.

We’ll also try the Lepší.TV app on other TVs we’ve tested, and it will be interesting to see if and what the changes will be on different OSes. We would also like to thank Lepší.TV for their cooperation in this testing.
