Philips OLED 807 test with Play-Fi external speaker

Connection speed and performance

Philips offers up to four different OLED models, and after the second highest (907), the cheaper model numbered 807 has made its way to us. However, to avoid repeating the same test over and over again, this time we’ll also focus on DTS Play-Fi technology, using the TAW6205 wireless speaker. Thanks to its WiFi connection, it has several advantages over conventional speakers. This will be discussed as well.

Connection speed

A separate category for TVs will be testing WiFi and LAN connectivity, as this is an important feature for streaming content nowadays. The MediaTek chipset in use limits the wired connection to 100 Mbps, which was evident this time around, and the wireless connection over WiFi 5 802.11 ac reaches just under 300 Mbps. So once again we see the same results as with all the models tested so far, and once again this is a disappointment. The router may be located in the next room, but in the same location as the TV was placed, the iPhone 14 Pro Max achieved 675 Mbps download and 321 Mbps upload, more than double the speed. The solution to this problem is to just wait for the next generation of TVs, where the already announced OLED+908 should offer a new MediaTek Pentonic 1000 processor that will offer the new WiFi 6/6E standards.

Performance

We will also look at the performance of the chipset for gaming purposes on TVs that allow us to do this, as Android offers a number of gaming titles and it would be a shame not to test whether it is possible to run them on the TV. As already mentioned, the OLED 807 has been given the same chipset as the OLED+907 and The One PUS8807, the MediaTek MT5895, which doesn’t break any records with its performance. In the tests, it scored very similar to the higher-end OLED model, I see a slightly lower score in Wild Life, but this will only be due to measurement variance as it is the same chipset. So don’t look for any high performance, and if you want to play Android games, you’ll have to reach for some TV box with a more powerful processor.
