Philips OLED 807 test with Play-Fi external speaker

Conclusion

Philips offers up to four different OLED models, and after the second highest (907), the cheaper model numbered 807 has made its way to us. However, to avoid repeating the same test over and over again, this time we’ll also focus on DTS Play-Fi technology, using the TAW6205 wireless speaker. Thanks to its WiFi connection, it has several advantages over conventional speakers. This will be discussed as well.

Conclusion

The Philips OLED 807 is probably the most interesting model of the current generation Philips OLED lineup. It still uses the OLED.EX panel like its higher-end siblings, but has lost the heatsink and premium equipment like the Bower & Wilkins speaker array. However, as a result, it offers a more affordable price tag and more flexibility for your needs thanks to a choice of four sizes.

Slightly lower brightness in practice will be difficult to detect at all, you’d have to have OLED+907 right next to it for comparison, which no one realistically will. The audio isn’t bad at all despite the lack of a premium soundbar, and thanks to DTS Play-Fi you can add additional speakers as needed. We’ve finally managed to test this feature as well, and it will definitely find its place in the home. It’s a shame that at the moment integration with TVs is limited to Philips only, on the other hand all the more reason to buy just the OLED 807.

I can praise again the top-notch parameters and compatibility for gaming whether on PC or consoles, which we have also seen. More or less the same experience as on the more expensive OLED+907. However, besides the positive things from the higher model, there are also negative ones left, i.e. a chipset with limited network connection speeds as well as a pitifully small internal storage. It will be almost a necessity to use some sort of TV box if you want to have more than a few apps installed. Philips also ignores AirPlay for some reason unknown to me, which definitely won’t please the “apple people”, but again, it’s nothing unsolvable, just add Apple TV.

The bottom line is that the OLED 807 offers a better price-performance ratio compared to the top model OLED + 907, which has the upper hand only in the audio side and slightly higher brightness, but for the money saved you can choose from a relatively large number of Play-Fi speakers and conjure up even better sound than what you get from the 907 in the base.

The Philips OLED 807 is available in four sizes and in addition to the tested 65″ diagonal, you can also choose the larger 77″ model or the smaller 55 and 48″ versions:
