AMD Ryzen 9 7900X test: A BANG of an intergenerational leap

More aggressive power limits? Okay, but at a higher efficiency than Intel can do, AMD told itself while working on the Ryzen 7000 processors. And that’s how it really is, despite record-high clock speeds that are truly unusual for a new, unrefined manufacturing node. If this is just the beginning… In any case, not everything is rosy and AMD’s new processors have downsides that will need to be addressed in the future. Zen 4 has a thermal boost, too. 5.85 GHz only at sub 50 °C temps

It is often commented on that Intel processors (like the upcoming Raptor Lake) have many different boost modes with various conditions, for example the temperature-dependent Thermal Velocity Boost. But it turns out that the Ryzen 7000s have something similar. According to unofficial information the top Ryzen 9 7950X model will also reach its maximum frequency only at low temperatures – impractically low, even. Zen 4 architecture: chip parameters and IPC of AMD’s new core

AMD formally launched the Ryzen 7000 (with availability four weeks away though) and confirmed specs and pricing. The company has also disclosed a considerable amount of technical details and more has now leaked from unofficial sources. So let’s have a deeper look at Zen 4 architecture, the 5nm chiplets of the processors and finally the core’s IPC – which has actually improved more than the previously promised +8 to 10 % over Zen 3. We learned the final specs of these processors and their new iGPU, as well as a store availability date and the prices the chips will cost. There’s been a surprise change in pricing in contrast with the previous leaks. In any case, Zen 4 is here. Read more “AMD Ryzen 7000 announced: models, specs, pricing, availability” »

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D: Best for gaming? In practice, rarely

AMD’s first processor with 3D V-cache is a rather controversial piece of hardware. Sure, it may be the ultimate in gaming performance, but the desired effect is more “on paper” than practical, and when it does come, it’s in very rare cases. So that you don’t end up disappointed with a virtually single-purpose processor that may not even excel at gaming, we’ve broken it all down in detailed tests. Leaked RDNA 3 GPU details: Has AMD underestimated Nvidia?

Major news has surfaced about AMD’s upcoming RDNA 3 architecture based 5nm GPUs. These chips will form the basis of Radeon RX 7000 generation graphics cards, which will compete with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4000 GPUs. Angstronomics has published their specifications as well as chip sizes, which raise doubts whether they can have competitive performance. On the other hand, they could be relatively low-cost. Full specs of AMD Ryzen 7000 processors out. Major TDP bump

According to leaks, AMD is expected to release their new desktop processors with Zen 4 architecture and 5nm manufacturing process in six weeks and will formally unveil them before the end of the month. And it seems the parameters of these CPUs are now also out. We even have them from two sources, improving the odds this info is legit. Unfortunately, there’s bad news in the power consumption department: TDPs are getting much worse. Read more “Full specs of AMD Ryzen 7000 processors out. Major TDP bump” »

AMD has self-leaked Ryzen 7000 models. Cheaper 7700X octa-core?

Although AMD’s new desktop processors with Zen 4 architecture and the new AM5 platform seem to be very close with release probably less than two months away, the company managed to keep the specs under wraps. It’s not completely leak-proof though. The company’s own website actually revealed information about the models coming out in the first wave of new processors. There’s four of them, one being somewhat of a surprise. Read more “AMD has self-leaked Ryzen 7000 models. Cheaper 7700X octa-core?” »

Intel Arc A380 GPU performance is worse than RX 6400 after all

After missing previous 2021 and Q1 2022 deadlines, Intel Arc discrete desktop graphics cards with the Xe HPG gaming architecture went on sale in China this month. But instead of some bombastic arrival, Intel is releasing them rather quietly, first only in China and only in the OEM market. But maybe that’s because they’re not really impressive yet – the first Arc A380 model seems to be falling well short of expectations in tests. Radeon RX 6650 XT with AMD SAM: +6 % performance for 20 W

We didn’t make it to the release day of the Radeon RX 6000 refresh, but we’ve got them – performance tests with the Resizable BAR active. Mostly this technology is useful, but in some cases it is harmful. The test results show how AMD tunes this technology across different driver versions, optimizes it, and sometimes breaks and doesn’t fix some things for a change. However, these are outnumbered, and quite overwhelmingly, by improvements. Read more “Radeon RX 6650 XT with AMD SAM: +6 % performance for 20 W” »
