Welcome, Adam! 18 years of experience in graphics card testing

Join us in welcoming Adam Vágner on board HWC today. Of the authors I know, he’s the most experienced with graphics cards. That’s what he’ll be covering. Thus, graphics card testing will be taken over by a tester who’s been doing it for a long time (and intensively). This is the approach we pride ourselves on and will continue to do so. There are plenty of “experts in everything”, but true specialists are slowly disappearing from the map.

Our paths meet again. Adam and I used to work together in the editorial office of the now defunct magazine ExtraHardware.cz. It was a beautiful time with never-ending speculations about what to do and how to do it for a better result. The old CPU cooler tests, the archive of which we also have here, were actually created by Adam. However, he comes to HWCooling to test graphics cards, although he will certainly make enriching contributions to other topics as well.

What does Adam’s arrival mean in terms of our functioning? Activity on graphics card tests will increase significantly, and multiple designs with the same GPU will be pitted against each other in detailed comparisons. Until now, this has not been possible due to time constraints, and with one GPU, there is only one graphics card in one design, one model, in the comparison database. But now this will change and you will also learn, for example, which of the available versions of the GeForce RTX 5080 (or graphics cards with a different GPU) is the “best”. You can also look forward to a flood of thematic analyses, which have been scarce until now. And most importantly, it will be under the guidance of nearly 20 years of experience in the field of graphics card testing and things related to them.

Having Adam take over my agenda in this way will also be beneficial for the “cooling” topics, for which this move creates more space. We are starting case tests again, and fan tests will be added more frequently as well. In October we will also add tests on Intel LGA 1851 and AMD AM5 platforms, which will expand Pavel’s measurements on Intel LGA 1200 platform.

Well, we’ll see what the future holds, but we’re already excited to have one of the most experienced graphics card testers on the internet join the HWCooling team. Now back to work! Now you know what you were meant to know, new graphics card tests with the new approach will be coming soon. 🙂

Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 Series: Your ideal graphics studio

NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs are the most popular solution for PC gaming, but they are also designed for use across a wide range of semi‑ and fully‑professional workflows and creative tasks. NVIDIA Studio drivers open give GeForce RTX 50‑series GPUs in desktops and laptops capabilities that were previously limited to much more expensive professional GPUs. That means you can confidently tackle demanding 3D work with them. Read more “Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 Series: Your ideal graphics studio” »

“All” graphics cards in in-depth coil whine analysis

The number of graphics cards tested over the recent period has reached a number after which we can pause a bit and specifically focus on the noise level of their coils. The latter has always been recorded in standard measurements, but in large tests with lots of other information, this unique data was getting lost. That is why it will now, within the scope of this article, be limited to these only. So which of the modern graphics cards has the quieter coils? Gigabyte RX 7900 GRE Gaming OC 16G in test of 30 graphics cards

The most “lightweight” AMD Navi 31 (XL) GPU, the slowest memory subsystem, but also the lowest price. That’s the RX 7900 GRE compared to the RX 7900 XT. This Radeon is also noticeably cheaper compared to the RTX 4070 Super, although the GeForce’s power efficiency is more favorable. The gaming performance of the RX 7900 GRE (RTX 4070S), meanwhile, is comparable. That is, as long as you won’t miss ray-tracing graphics. 1. So, this chapter has come to an end. Further GPU tests by Adam on HWC will most likely not continue. Thanks for everything! Knowledge is a very valuable commodity these days, and we’re not giving up—but we’ll need to pursue it in a slightly different way. 🙂
