Water block on SSD? XM2 Hydro X started selling for $40
Corsair has been dealing with SSDs in recent days. In a short time sequence, it first announced and then released two extra-fast SSDs, of which the cheaper one with NAND QLC memory. These are not yet widely used among models with PCI Express 4.0 support. But the real curiosity is the third thing on the list – a water block with which you can order the more expensive SSD or buy it separately for your own one. Read more “Water block on SSD? After 10 years, a new Arctic paste from the MX series is here – 5
There is no more popular series of thermal pastes than MX from Arctic, which was released in the early phase of the company under the old name Arctic Cooling. Two years ago, Arctic boasted a statistical report on 10,000,000 sold pieces of MX-2 and MX-4 (in total) and now, without prior news, there has been a notice of the upcoming release of MX-5. The exact date is already known and you won’t have to wait long. Read more “After 10 years, a new Arctic paste from the MX series is here – 5”
Nvidia intros PCIe Resizable BAR: Smart Access Memory for GeForce
With Radeon RX 6000 GPUs and Ryzen 5000 CPUs, AMD unveiled the Smart Access Memory feature, which improves GPU performance by giving the CPU access to whole graphic memory. It was touted as an exclusive feature for these products, but it won’t be in the end. Nvidia has now announced PCIe Resizable BAR, essentialy the same feature, and it’s soon going to be supported by GeForce RTX 3060. Older cards will need a BIOS updat, though. Laptop AMD Ryzen 5000 is here. Zen 3 and clock up to 4.8 GHz
We’ve already covered Intel’s news from CES 2021, (10nm Jasper Lake, Tiger Lake-H35 and Rocket Lake desktop) and now it’s time to turn to AMD’s showings at the virtual event. The company unveiled the expected Ryzen 5000 mobile processors which brings the Zen 3 architecture to laptops. They are based on the Cezanne APU and should come to notebooks from next month on. We already have the specifications of 15 and 45W(+) models. Read more “Laptop AMD Ryzen 5000 is here. Zen 3 and clock up to 4.8 GHz”
Intel at CES: Atom Jasper Lake, Tiger Lake-H35 and Core i9-11900K
Intel is likely at the point where it got out of the worst of the “never-ending 14nm process” period now: the company has unveiled three families of 10nm mobile processors at CES 2021, some clocked up to 5 GHz. And in addition to this, Rocket Lake processors for desktop. Those are still 14nm products (the last ones), but they finally bring a new – and potentially very good – architecture. All these CPUs will be released in Q1 2021. Read more “Intel at CES: Atom Jasper Lake, Tiger Lake-H35 and Core i9-11900K”
Radeon RX 6700 & RX 6700 XT launch expected at end of March
Last autumn, the long-awaited new generation of graphics cards arrived, but at the start Nvidia and AMD have only released the more expensive SKUs. Now, in the winter and spring months of 2021, cheaper cards are finally supposed to arrive too. It seems that new cards belonging to the Radeon RX 6000 hierarchy should appear in about two and a half months, and both will build on the Navi 22 chip. AGESA 1.1.9.0 update coming to Ryzen: AMD lists the new features
If you’re running an AMD Ryzen processor, you’re probably familiar with updating the so-called AGESA code, which is built into (and updated with) the motherboard’s BIOS. This can improve performance on newly released AMD processors and also fix various bugs. Such an update is now being prepared for the new Ryzen 5000 with AM4 architecture: AGESA 1.1.9.0 should bring several improvements, including in stability. Next-gen Nvidia GeForce GPU is Lovelace on 5 nm. Up to 144 SMs?
A year ago, even before Nvidia’s announcement of Ampere, it was leaked that the followup to the current generation is likely called Hopper. But it looks like there may have been a change of plan. According to current leaks, Nvidia is readjusting GPU roadmaps and instead of Hopper chips, the next generation could be called Lovelace. These GPUs are said to already be 5nm and the increase in performance could be very large. Read more “Next-gen Nvidia GeForce GPU is Lovelace on 5 nm. Up to 144 SMs?”
Silverstone attracts with a 20-gigabit enclosure for external SSD
External SSDs are not always favorable in terms of price. Compared to the price of an SSD and an enclosure itself, manufacturers like to be paid extra for the highest-performance models. Otherwise you might buy a cat (no-name SSD) in the sack, etc. Now, however, there is a good opportunity to buy an extra fast SilverStone MS12 enclosure and an SSD in M.2 format according to your own taste. And in terms of architecture, it looks quite attractive. Read more “Silverstone attracts with a 20-gigabit enclosure for external SSD”
A peek at Intel Rocket Lake processors: SKUs and leaked specs
The March 2011 release of Rocket Lake processors, the 11th generation Intel Core for desktop is closing in. But leaks have already painted a good picture of their specifications: we have an overview of Rocket Lake SKUs from Core i5-11400F to octa-core i7-11700K and i9-11900K chips, even with parameters and clock speeds. Rocket Lake cores have 18% higher IPC, so single-threaded performance should be significantly improved. Read more “A peek at Intel Rocket Lake processors: SKUs and leaked specs”
Z590 motherboards for Intel Rocket Lake to be released in January
In Q1 2021, Intel is expected to release Rocket Lake, the new 11th generation of desktop processors, still using 14nm manufacturing process, but with a new architecture, PCIe 4.0 and probably much higher single-threaded and gaming performance. According to rumors, the CPU launch should be in March, but it looks like the platform with new motherboards, such as B560, Z590, etc. could be released sooner, as early as a few days from now. ASRock supports Zen 3 on X370/B350/A320 chipset motherboards
Ryzen 5000 only worked on X570, B550 and A520 chipsets initially, and 400-series chipsets are only now receiving support. Even these were not planned to get it at first, so support on even older 300-series chipsets seemed impossible for a long time. But here’s the good news: in the end, such an upgrade may work. It seems ASRock released BIOS updates for their X370, B350 and A320 motherboards that add support for the new Zen 3 processors.
