Lower price, higher cooling efficiency. That is what distinguishes the FD12 V2 fans (compared to their predecessors). DeepCool has improved the aerodynamic performance of the newer FD12 (V2) in several ways, making them more attractive despite the lower price. Much of this is due to the impeller ring, a feature not previously used. Arctic (with the P12 Pro fans) should take notice.
Evaluation
In terms of price-to-performance, the aerodynamic properties are exceptionally attractive, ranking very high in this coefficient. The DeepCool FD12 V2 surpasses even the Arctic P12 Pro and in charts sits between the Endorfy Stratus 120 PWM and the outgoing Arctic P12. Fans from Thermalright, such as the TL-C12C, also enter the equation. However, when it comes to airflow through obstacles, the FD12 V2’s main competition comes from Arctic models—which is a strong endorsement.
The price is low and aerodynamic performance is high, whether tested with dust filters (nylon, plastic), on a grille, or on radiators (thinner, thicker).
DeepCool relies on proven fundamentals—an efficient aerodynamic blade shape with long blades and a ring that suppresses unwanted noise from critical vibrations. Some mechanical vibration is present, but it must be considered that the FD12 V2 reaches around 2500 RPM at maximum speed. At lower speeds, roughly 1500 RPM and below, vibrations become negligible—specifically those transmitted from the impeller to the frame.
Motor performance is genuinely strong despite its small housing. Longevity remains an open question, and DeepCool does not specify MTBF. Time will tell.
In any case, DeepCool has achieved something impressive, and we will reference the FD12 V2 fans multiple times in the future. They somewhat resemble the story of the FK120, but here with several technical refinements leading to more attractive results—aerodynamically and especially acoustically. There are fans with a more refined sound profile overall, but it is more pleasant (than the FK120 used to be) in the case of the FD12 V2.
If you are on a tighter budget, the FD12 V2 is well worth considering as an affordable option. DeepCool has done a great deal to ensure user satisfaction. Long blades without pronounced tonal peaks combined with efficient geometry are worth noting—especially at such a low purchase price.
