BeQuiet! Light Wings fans now also in white

BeQuiet! Light Wings White

For users who prefer a contrast to the traditional stuff, BeQuiet! has released white Light Wings fans, in both 120mm and 140mm formats. By the standards of lighted fans, these will be models with some of the stiffest blades, especially in the smaller format. Because of its design characteristics, it is highly likely to achieve extremely low vibration alongside a superbly non-intrusive sound profile.

BeQuiet! has had black Light Wings fans for some time, now it adds white ones and gives you a better choice visually as well. The white Light Wings fans are geometrically based on the black versions. The rotor of the “High-speed” variants features a larger number of longer and slimmer blades. These are expected to reach a maximum speed of 2500 rpm (120 mm/BL101) and 2200 rpm (140 mm/BL103). The airflow for the smaller format should be 88.86 m3/h, the static pressure 2,6 mm H2O, for the bigger fan it’s as much as 121.82 m3/h at a static pressure of 2.3 mm H2O.

Slower fans with max. 1700 rpm (120 mm/BL100) and 1500 rpm (140 mm/BL102) have two fewer blades, but they are wider and shorter. At their tips there will be guaranteed to be less vibration and less frequency peaks in the sound. In other words, with these models you don’t have to worry about lower frequencies and rumble, which doesn’t plague the 120mm Light Wings BL072 in black either.

A color change does not mean any change in BeQuiet!’s specifications. For example, the 120-millimetre model is designed to achieve, at maximum speed, the same airflow (70.53 m3/h), static pressure (1.66 mm H2O) and noise level (20.6 dBA) as do the black variants. The same applies to the 140 mm variant, which, however, thanks to a larger cross-section of approx. 35%, achieves a higher airflow (95.14 m3/h).

Compared to the black BeQuiet! fans, although all key parameters are the same, identical performance may not be achieved. At the maximum speed, to which all parameters are related, they may not diverge, but at lower speeds some differences may still occur. Similar to the black and white Corsair AF120 fans. The change in colouring also means a slightly different elemental composition, which may be related to lower stiffness of the material used (PBT), even though its shape and thickness are the same. As a result of the different stiffness (albeit only negligibly), the fans have different critical speeds.

Light Wings fans, however, may not show any differences because they have extra-short blades with no significant vibration at the tips. We already know this, from tests of the black variant.

As far as lighting is concerned, as much as 20 (A)RGB LEDs are used, whose light is guided by a circular diffuser around the rotor. But this is already part of the frame. The specifications for the power supply correspond to the parameters of the black variants, which we have already measured in tests. So you already have luminosity (and its efficiency) in the comparison charts, although a fan with a white frame (the one that doesn’t absorb as much light as the black ones) could reach for slightly higher values.

Unlike the black fans, the white fans are not sold as a single piece and will only be available in a three-pack with a hub. The MSRP for a pack of 120 mm fans is, regardless of speed variant (BL100/BL101), 70 EUR. For 140 mm fans (BL102 and BL103) its 73 EUR. Availability in stores is reported to start from 11 April 2023.

BeQuiet! Dark Rock Elite – The new king of coolers?

I will start this year’s cooler tests with a real treat. I’ve prepared a review of the Dark Rock Elite cooler, the absolute top of BeQuiet!’s range. This is a premium cooler offering very high performance at low noise levels thanks to its sophisticated design in combination with high-end fans. I’m very curious to see how it performs compared to the high-end coolers I’ve had the opportunity to test over the past year. Read more “BeQuiet! Dark Rock Elite – The new king of coolers?” »

BeQuiet! Pure Wings 3 (BL108): Efficient and “cheap” in 140 mm

The long break is over, back to fans. BeQuiet! recently updated its entry-level line – Pure Wings – and at least the slower 140-millimeter models have to be on your radar. The Pure Wings 3 fans in the BL108 variant represent an extremely efficient low-cost option for some situations, while not suffering from the common shortcomings of their price class. What’s quiet here is not only the aerodynamic component, but also the motor one. Read more “BeQuiet! Pure Wings 3 (BL108): Efficient and “cheap” in 140 mm” »
