One Mini-ITX board is not enough. Biostar released the B660T-Silver

The new Biostar B660T-Silver

Biostar is building its motherboard lineup gradually. Most of the models for the Intel LGA 1700 platform arrived at once, with the ending of the embargo, but since then some have been added “solo”. Relatively recently it was a Micro ATX-format board from the Silver series (B660M-Silver), now it’s the B660T-Silver for even smaller desktops with a square PCB with a 170 mm side (Mini-ITX form factor).

You won’t even need all the fingers of one hand to count Mini-ITX motherboards with the Intel B660 chipset. Asus and MSI don’t have any, Gigabyte has one. Surprisingly, however, Biostar, as the smallest company in this grouping, has added a second Mini-ITX format board to the B660GTN – the B660T-Silver.

DDR4 memory with XMP up to 5000 MHz is supported. Especially when selecting high-speed modules, consult the list of supported kits so you won’t be surprised if the board doesn’t POST after activating the memory profile. This can happen if you bet on “chance”. Processors are supported up to the most powerful Core i9-12900KS with a TDP of 150 W.

The power delivery will probably be robust enough to handle over 300 W in boost, although the question is at what efficiency. However, given a chipset with no manual overclocking support and only an eight-pin EPS connector, it is more likely that more low-power processors with a locked multiplier will be counted on, which typically have lower power draw in boost.

The features are quite common for Mini-ITX motherboards. There are four SATA connectors, two M.2 slots (both four-lane and one of them also supports SATA SSDs) as well as DIMM slots for memory, PCI Express slot is traditionally one (×16), with support for the 5.0 standard. Furthermore, the board is equipped with a Realtek ALC1220 sound chip, Ethernet is 2.5-gigabit and network connectivity also includes two external SMA connectors for connecting WiFi antennas.

However, the M.2 slot WiFi module (E-key) must be purchased separately, it is not supplied by Biostar as a standard accessory. At the rear (externally) there are a total of six USB ports, four of which are fast 3.2 gen. 2 standard with a bandwidth of 10 GB/s. There are two video outputs – HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a, and the presence of a PS/2 connector is also worth mentioning.

It’s remarkable how similar this board is to the Biostar B660GTN. When you compare the specs, you won’t find a single difference. There is one though – the B660T-Silver doesn’t have any lighting elements and although we don’t know the recommended price yet, it can be assumed that it will be a bit cheaper. Apart from the colour scheme, the heatsinks are also different, the ones on the VRM look more robust on this new board with a more rugged and articulated surface. Naturally, the difference may also be in the composition of the VRM components. If the voltage regulators are also the same, the PWM driver may be different. But we will only find out as part of some analysis.
