A brand new CPU core architecture coming out is a big thing in the world of processors. We’ve been anticipating that from Intel for a long time, particularly in the Skylake era of waiting for 10 nm. Intel has since fielded new architectures in Ice Lake and Alder Lake, but there could be a major architectural revolution in a few years. The chips following Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake are said to be brewing something completely new. Read more “Intel Lunar Lake: new “Conroe moment” processor revolution?”

Dark Power 13 or what the new ATX 3.0 PSUs from BeQuiet! look like
The year 2023 in hardware will also be characterized by the advent of power supplies with support for the ATX 3.0 standard. BeQuiet! currently introduced its irons in the fire. Due to more stringent quality criteria, the German company has launched the high-end Dark Power 13 models in three variants, with rated wattages of 750, 850 and 1000 W. All of them have the 80 Plus Titanium efficiency certification. Read more “Dark Power 13 or what the new ATX 3.0 PSUs from BeQuiet! look like”
AMD Ryzen 7000X3D release date revealed? (Update: Sadly not)
Last week, AMD has unveiled the awaited expansion of the AMD Ryzen 7000 processor family with “X3D” models with 3D V-Cache. It boosts performance in games, so these could be very good (maybe even the best?) gaming PC processors. AMD has disclosed the specs, but hasn’t given the availability date for these models. We already have this information though, perhaps inadvertently, divulged by the company itself on its website. Read more “AMD Ryzen 7000X3D release date revealed? (Update: Sadly not)”
AMD launches Ryzen 7040: 4nm APU with Zen 4 and RDNA 3 iGPU
In addition to the AM5 Ryzen 7000 processors with 3D V-Cache and mainstream 65W TDP models, AMD also announced a wholly new offering at CES 2023: the first processors with Zen 4 architecture for laptops. They are based on the all-new Phoenix APU, which is the first 4nm Ryzen chip and the first processor with an integrated RDNA 3 GPU, which will also clock up to 3 GHz. So it’s going to be a very interesting laptop platform. Read more “AMD launches Ryzen 7040: 4nm APU with Zen 4 and RDNA 3 iGPU”
Expected 140mm Noctua fans hit by production issues
Until recently, it looked like if Noctua failed to release the new generation of 140mm fans by the end of the year (2022), it would happen shortly after. But right now, even this year’s release is in jeopardy. The cause is a fault that, it seems, Noctua didn’t really expect. This delay, by the way, also significantly delays the planned sale of the successor to the NH-D15 CPU cooler. Read more “Expected 140mm Noctua fans hit by production issues”
Vapor chamber by Noctua: Premiere to take place in Asus RTX 4080
Just before the end of last year, we wrote about Noctua’s involvement in the development of Asus RTX 4000 graphics card. Now we know for sure that there will be an RTX4080-O16G-Noctua model. While at first glance this card’s cooler will be the same as the last one, it is supposed to be significantly more effective with the implementation of a vapor chamber, which Noctua has never used before, not even with their own CPU coolers. W790 board for Sapphire Rapids: 64L and 112L CPUs both supported
One of December’s interesting news was the leak about Intel’s new Sapphire Rapids CPU platform for both high-end desktop (HEDT) and workstations. It’s three CPU platforms – but besides the 2S systems, we’re mainly interested in the two lineups for single-processor workstations: the pricier octo-channel Xeon W-3400 and the cheaper quad-channel Xeon W-2400 with fewer cores. But it looks like these two will be partially compatible. Read more “W790 board for Sapphire Rapids: 64L and 112L CPUs both supported”
Year of the fan is here: by 2023, there will be 70 of them compared
Last year’s tally of fans tested ends at 34 models. We don’t know what number it will stop at one day over the years, but our plan for the next twelve months is clear: Push hard on fan topics. Not only by adding to the record number of fans, but also by popular education on the physics that is essential to a proper understanding of exactly how fans work. The goal is for you to have a clarity about everything. Read more “Year of the fan is here: by 2023, there will be 70 of them compared”
Asus and Noctua are collabing on GeForce RTX 4000 cards as well
Asus graphics cards with Noctua coolers wasn’t just a one-season affair. On the contrary, it seems that this could be a tradition that will now continue in the Ada Lovelace GPU generation. Information is extremely scarce so far, but we did hear something from the ones in charge and some details are clear. However, we can only speculate about most of it until CES 2023, where the official unveiling of these graphics will take place. Breakthrough overclocking record: Raptor Lake achieves 9 GHz
Intel’s Raptor Lake processors brought one surprise: breaking the absolute extreme OC record. There were doubts it would ever happen, as today’s CPU architectures are not optimized for the high clock speeds at all costs like the past record holders Pentium 4 and AMD FX. But Raptor Lake and Intel 7 Ultra manufacturing process have shown they are capable of even more and have conquered a milestone never-beaten before, now. Noctua is behind schedule, new 140mm fans have been delayed
This is not entirely new information. On the contrary, the news that Noctua won’t release 140mm fans made of “sterrox” this year after all is quite old. Still, it disappeared on Twitter among other posts, and the reach to the public is quite small. We, too, have only now gotten around to the delay of Noctua’s long-awaited fans. So if you’re still waiting and hoping, know that they won’t be coming this year, for certain. Read more “Noctua is behind schedule, new 140mm fans have been delayed”
Thermalright revives low tower coolers with the Assassin X 90 SE
There used to be no shortage of them, but now they’re quite rare – CPU coolers with smaller, 92-millimeter fans that are also compatible with slimmer cases. One such new product has been released by Thermalright. The Assassin X 90 SE cooler will soon come in handy when selecting a suitable solution for more low-power variants of desktop processors from both Intel (Raptor Lake) and AMD (Raphael) with a TDP of 65 W and lower. Return of Intel’s HEDT: W790, Xeon W-2400 and W-3400 processors
Yesterday, we discussed Intel’s leaked roadmap for 2023, specifically the plans for desktop segment. But in addition to the mainstream LGA 1700 socket, this roadmap also shows new workstation platforms. Alongside the most expensive server-derived platforms, it reveals the W790 platform that should be a more affordable option representing a successor to older HEDT products like the X299 platform, and is therefore of much interest to us. Six new 120/140mm EK-Loop FPT fans on sale
The EKWB Vardar fans are now discontinued, but there is a replacement in the form of fans from the new FPT series. These are designed primarily for what this company is most dedicated to – custom loops. Along with high airflow, the specs promise high static pressure, which is key on obstacles such as radiators to achieve the highest possible cooling efficiency (air performance to noise level ratio). DeepCool released a 4-chamber case with ventilation flaps
For users who find conventional designs dull, cases such as the Quadstellar Infinity are emerging. In addition to the unconventional appearance inspired by space bodies, there are a number of noteworthy features that have an impact on cooling. The interior is divided into four segments for which the airflow can be individually controlled. And the installation of components is also different than in “conventional” cases.
