Cheaper Zen 3 in early 2021: AMD to launch Ryzen 5 5600 at $220

The Ryzen 5000 processors announced last week give AMD a shot at becoming the performance king fully overtaking Intel this generation, however they brought unwelcome news, too. Particularly the price: the cheapest Zen 3 based Ryzen 5 5600X with just six cores will cost $299, a long stretch from Zen 2 based Ryzen 5 3600. But it seems this might improve soonish as AMD is reportedly readying cheaper hexa-core Ryzen 5 5600. Read more “Cheaper Zen 3 in early 2021: AMD to launch Ryzen 5 5600 at $220” »

RaidSonic has an SSD cooler with extreme 25-watt TDP

Icy Box IB-M2HSF-702, compared to competition, is specific in terms of size but also a fan. Users often have prejudice towards active cooling in non-traditional spots inside a PC case. Especially in cases where it is believed that it is possible to design at least as efficient a passive cooler or that a higher cooling performance is still not on point. This SSD cooler will not avoid doubtful looks either. Read more “RaidSonic has an SSD cooler with extreme 25-watt TDP” »

Evaluation of the competition for Noctua NP-H1.brown hoodies

We have good news for the two readers who took part in our fall competition. We’re sending them two Noctua hoodies for their proven activity and a little luck. And they are suitable for the current weather outside. If we didn’t draw you today, don’t despair, you may win in the future – there will be many more opportunities to win something at HWCooling and NP-H1 hoodies are, after all, also available in retail. Some RTX 3080 cards reported unstable. Driver fix lowers boost

It looks like the release of Nvidia GeForce RTX 3000 “Ampere” will not be amongst those GPU launches that were free of initial issues at the start. Last week, first owners of GeForce RTX 3080 cards began to report instability of the cards allegedly associated with the GPU Boost. The problems might be due to the capacitors used, but Nvidia also solves them by updating the drivers which could probably affect performance. Read more “Some RTX 3080 cards reported unstable. Driver fix lowers boost” »

Competition, fall 2020: Which of Noctua products is the best?

Processor cooler, fan, thermal paste or some small accessories? We are curious, so we’re asking which of Noctua’s products is the most attractive from your point of view. It doesn’t have to be just the current piece of hardware, but also older components or, conversely, one still being planned for the coming period. Comment on your favorite and join the game to win a hoodie with Noctua theme. Read more “Competition, fall 2020: Which of Noctua products is the best?” »

Iceberg Thermal is a new manufacturer of cooling components

While many companies are fighting today’s pitfalls and struggling to survive, an experienced team of developers is launching a new brand into the world that is going to deal with computer cooling. Under the Iceberg Thermal banner, a wide portfolio of ready-to-sell processor coolers and fans is now available. And the good thing is that all Iceberg Thermal designs offer some invention. ClockTuner for Ryzen auto-tunes performance and power draw

Overclocking and tweaking performance on Ryzen is not an easy thing because, compared to the automatic boost, it cannot often squeeze too much extra and silicon does not have large reserves. But if you are not satisfied with a “stock” processor, you will now be able to use automated OC. The new ClockTuner tool will allow you to automatically undervolt Ryzen 3000 CPUs or automatically overclock them, separately for both CCX blocks. Ampere GPU: new PAM4-based GDDR6X memory & more details

Next-gen Nvidia GeForce GPUs are almost here, with reveal on September 1th, but we have interesting new information on them like some specs for the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. But more importantly, it turns out Ampere introduces a complely new memory. Micron has confirmed developping special GDDR6X chips for Nvidia that will increase clocks and bandwidth by 50% over GDDR6. So what do we know so far? Read more “Ampere GPU: new PAM4-based GDDR6X memory & more details” »

The results of the spring competition. Air 2:2 Liquid

The voting is over and we know the names of the victors. Sharing and support on social networks played a significant role, so PR got a little boost too. Of course, it was on every participant where and how they promoted their rigs. We are pleased that the score between the air systems and liquid systems is equal. Although the absolute winner is a liquid cooling configuration. Read more “The results of the spring competition. Air 2:2 Liquid” »

Years of development and new Noctua fans made of Sterrox

There is probably no such thing as a dominant company in the world of cooling. But if we talk just about fans, Noctua is close enough. Their fans with characteristic brown rotors are relatively expensive but also generally considered to be a quality standard. Now, this Austrian company introduced a new generation that promises big changes. Read more “Years of development and new Noctua fans made of Sterrox” »

Vote for the best rig in the spring competition!

The competition is really strong. It was impossible to choose just six rigs, which was the first plan, so we decided to give a chance to more people. There are fourteen champions, seven air systems and seven liquid systems. Every design is interesting and clever, with various original features. It’s going to be a tough choice, but we hope you will find your favourite one! Read more “Vote for the best rig in the spring competition!” »

Ryzen processors with iGPU and 35W TDP

For computers with a low consumption, and even more for passive configurations, it is good to have a processor with reduced TDP, ideally 35 W or lower. Intel have such models on the market (T models), but they are still missing in AMD’s offer, at least among their new Zen CPUs. This is about to change with the arrival of new Ryzen (4 cores + iGPU) based on APU Raven Ridge. Read more “Ryzen processors with iGPU and 35W TDP” »

NUC with 10nm Cannon Lake processors and Radeon GPU

Minicomputers and NUC barebones from Intel is nothing new. But this year, there will be an interesting innovation: a model with dedicated graphics card. Not in the style of high-end Hades Canyon (Kaby Lake-G with Vega GPU) of course. It’s going to be NUC with a cheaper Radeon in some classic chassis, and the price will be lower. This model will probably be one of the first computers with 10nm Intel processors – which may be related. Read more “NUC with 10nm Cannon Lake processors and Radeon GPU” »

Ncore V1: water block for processors without a heatspreader

There’s a new speciality for fans of liquid cooling and Intel processors: a water block created for delided CPUs. You may have already thought about a liquid cooler that would be installed directly on-die. Arek Tobiszewski has designed a block for this purpose, its very base serve as a heatspreader for LGA 1151 processors. Read more “Ncore V1: water block for processors without a heatspreader” »

Spring competition: trade a photo of your rig for a new motherboard

The long awaited motherboards with the Intel B360 chipset for Coffee Lake processors are finally here! We managed to acquire one attractive piece from MSI for our spring competition. You can participate by sending a photo of your rig with a brief description of the cooling design in it. The most interesting configurations will be appropriately rewarded. The board is the main prize, but there are also many quality fans in the game. Read more “Spring competition: trade a photo of your rig for a new motherboard” »
