GeForce RTX 5060 graphics cards and Nvidia’s demo at Computex

We’ve already covered some of Nvidia’s announcements coming out of Computex 2025 this week, which is always the biggest computer industry event of the year along with CES. Now we’ll take a closer look, as we have a colleague on-site (Computex traditionally takes place in Taiwan) visiting the booths of some exhibiting companies with a camera and questions ready. Let’s now take a look at the demo Nvidia presented today. Read more “GeForce RTX 5060 graphics cards and Nvidia’s demo at Computex” »

Arctic releases Freezer 8. Shorter coolers for low-power CPUs

Forget the Freezer 7 and turn your attention to the Freezer 8. It’s the successor to the cooler marked with the “legendary” seven. Sure, it’ll take a moment to get used to the new name, but that’s the way it is – Arctic is updating its low-end lineup, and if you’re looking for a budget tower cooler for entry-level CPUs, the Freezer 8 will be one of the options. And one that fits even smaller or narrower cases. These coolers are only 136 mm tall. Read more “Arctic releases Freezer 8. Shorter coolers for low-power CPUs” »

CH690 Digital are DeepCool cases that fit “everything”

DeepCool has launched the CH690 Digital cases, with a volume of nearly 60 liters. With this capacity, they were designed to handle various setups using the largest components available. In addition to truly long graphics cards – with practically no limits – they also support oversized liquid cooling radiators from the top, bottom, or side. And all of this comes with a focus on looks, defined by two tempered glass panels. Read more “CH690 Digital are DeepCool cases that fit “everything”” »

Nvidia rumored to unveil its own ARM CPUs for PCs at Computex

Both Nvidia and MediaTek will be presenting their innovations at Computex. It’s possible that lots of reports about a joint processor – or even a processor developed solely by Nvidia – being unveiled at this event are speculative, simply betting on the likelihoods, but there seems to be a solid foundation behind the rumors too. Growing number of signs point to PC manufacturers already working on hardware based on these processors. Read more “Nvidia rumored to unveil its own ARM CPUs for PCs at Computex” »

Noctua NM-IMB8a: Closer to hotspots – lower CPU temps

The repositioning of Core Ultra 200S (Arrow Lake) CPU cores to the north side of the chip – compared to the previous southern placement – has also shifted the location of the CPU’s thermal hotspot, where the most intense heat transfer is needed. Noctua has responded with the NM-IMB8a offset mounting bars, which reposition the coldplate of the NH-D15 G2 cooler on the processor to achieve lower operating temperatures. Intel slashes prices of select Arrow Lake CPUs by 25%

Although Intel still dominates the CPU market share compared to AMD, this is mostly due to the conservative OEM desktop and laptop markets. In the retail CPU segment – especially relevant for gamers – Intel has been taking a beating. Retail sales of the new Arrow Lake / Core Ultra 200 processors appear to be underwhelming, which likely led to an unusual move: Intel has now issued a significant price cut on Arrow Lake chips. ADATA PCIe 5.0 SSDs introduce low-power controller, unusual cooler

SSDs using the high-speed PCI Express 5.0 interface have faced significant issues with power consumption and overheating since their debut virtually across the board, as all early models featured the same hot-running Phison E26 controller. This is now improving with the arrival of more efficient second-generation modules. Among the first are ADATA’s XPG Mars 980 drives, which benefit from a controller manufactured using a 6nm process. BeQuiet! Riddle (5/2025). Can you guess what’s in the photo?

In cooperation with BeQuiet!, we have prepared a cyclical activity for this year, which may be of interest to HWCooling readers. We’ll post a detail of some piece of hardware and you can guess what it is. You can compete (and eventually win something) on a regular basis, with a new challenge every month. But for now, you need to get “to the next round” through the next one, in May. Read more “BeQuiet! Riddle (5/2025). Can you guess what’s in the photo?” »

Rumored Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB cancellation is false, it’s coming

The 8GB model of GeForce RTX 5060 Ti has faced heavy criticism. Nvidia reportedly even tried to prevent reviews. Tests eventually confirmed that while 8GB is still sufficient for many tasks, an increasing number of games and scenarios now demand more, limiting the GPU’s usability. That’s when reports surfaced that AMD might have reconsidered its plans and possibly cancelled the upcoming Radeon RX 9060 XT model with 8GB memory. Radeon RX 9070 GRE officially unveiled, only for China for now

Reports of the Radeon RX 9070 GRE delay have turned out to be untrue, as this graphics card does appear to be launching now as the third model of the RDNA 4 generation. And it’s official: AMD has posted the specifications on their website, and listings have appeared for pre-order in initial retail outlets. However, for the time being, the launch is limited to China making the card a region-exclusive product, at least temporarily. Radeon RX 6500: A new 55W TDP graphics card quietly launched

Not much has been happening in the realm of the cheapest graphics cards. The last newcomer was the GeForce RTX 3050 6GB, which did represent a significant step back in performance compared to the original version, but it was also a 70W card not requiring auxiliary power. Something similar might now be emerging from AMD, although it’s still unclear whether this new basic low-power card will be widely available in stores. Commenting on HWC is working again, give it a try

The loss of interactivity on HWCooling.net appears to have been resolved. Commenting, registration, and many other activities should now work again. We’d appreciate it if you could try it all out and let us know if it does. The short-term issues with otherwise standard web functions were caused by an outdated content management system. That system has now been updated, and internally, we haven’t encountered anything that doesn’t work. Read more “Commenting on HWC is working again, give it a try” »

Intel Nova Lake CPUs to use a new socket, LGA 1851 is done

Ever since Intel released its new desktop LGA 1851 platform for Arrow Lake processors last fall, there has been speculation that this socket might have only a short lifespan. The LGA 1851 platform never received the originally planned Meteor Lake processors, and the third generation (Panther Lake) won’t come to desktops either. It looks like those concerns were well-founded. No new generation of CPUs will be released for LGA 1851. Read more “Intel Nova Lake CPUs to use a new socket, LGA 1851 is done” »

New „Micro ATX“ cases – DeepCool CH260 and CH270 Digital

DeepCool is expanding its lineup of compact cases with two new models designed for μATX motherboards. Or, in other words, the largest motherboards that will fit in the CH260 and CH270 Digital cases are Micro ATX. One of these two new cases is horizontally oriented – deeper rather than taller – while the other stands vertically. This makes it suitable for places where surface area is limited, but vertical space isn’t much of a constraint. Read more “New „Micro ATX“ cases – DeepCool CH260 and CH270 Digital” »

Navi 48 XL: AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE specs revealed

Last week, the specs for the Radeon RX 9060 XT leaked – a card that will likely be AMD’s main competition for Nvidia’s freshly launched GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 and is expected to go on sale in early June. But in the meantime, AMD may release another graphics card – the Radeon RX 9070 GRE, which could fill the gap just below the RX 9070. And the specs for this card have now also been leaked.
