Week ago, we learned AMD is launching a low-cost (if compromised) six-core Ryzen 5 5500X3D for AM4. “X3D” CPUs with 3D V-Cache are attractive to gamers with their 96MB L3 cache that significantly boosts games – but they’re fairly expensive. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D, for instance, sells for over 480 EUR. AMD, however, is now preparing a more affordable model in the current 9000 series that could bring this technology to more gamers.
Officially, AMD’s 9000 series currently includes only the 9800X3D, 9900X3D, and 9950X3D models. But it now appears that a Ryzen 5 9600X3D is also in the works – and it may not be far from launch. This yet-unannounced model has been spotted in documentation for the Radeon AI Pro R9700 professional graphics card, listed among CPUs supported for use with this GPU.
It seems the documentation was prepared by someone unaware that this processor hasn’t been released yet – unless it’s a case of mistakenly copied model names. However, note that the list also includes unreleased Ryzen Pro 9000 processors, which suggests this isn’t just a typo.

The Ryzen 5 9600X3D is expected to be based on the same foundation as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D – meaning a single Zen 5 CPU die with cache die, with two cores disabled (a configuration used in the 9900X3D, but with two chiplets instead). Since all other Ryzen 5 CPUs are six-core, 12-thread models, it’s nearly certain the 9600X3D will follow suit. Meanwhile, the full 96MB of 3D V-Cache should remain intact – AMD has never disabled part of the cache capacity it on any “X3D” chips so far.

We don’t yet know how much the Ryzen 5 9600X3D will cost. It would be particularly appealing if it launched at a significantly lowered price – ideally under the current Ryzen 7 7800X3D from the previous generation, which now starts at around 400 EUR.
A six-core model already exists in the 7000 series – the Ryzen 5 7600X3D. For a long time, it was only available in our region via German retailer Mindfactory, but it’s now also being sold by some Czech e-stores – albeit at a higher price than in Germany (where it goes for 259 EUR). Hopefully, the 9600X3D won’t suffer from such limited availability.
