AMD is reportedly going release a new AM4 processor after more than a year, a cheaper derivative of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D called Ryzen 5 5600X3D, which would include the game-boosting 3D V-Cache, but with only six cores. Initially, there were some doubts, but it looks like it is real. Its release and availability in the US is already confirmed to be due this week. It’s less clear for the rest of the world, however. Last week, cases of destroyed V-Cache using Ryzen 7000 “X3D” CPUs and even a burned socket on the board (the dead CPU probably started drawing excessive current from the VRM through the pins). At first it wasn’t clear if it wasn’t a result of manual overvolting, but AMD announced that they have found the cause of the problem and are releasing board BIOS updates to protect the CPUs from damage, so definitely update. Last week, AMD has unveiled the awaited expansion of the AMD Ryzen 7000 processor family with “X3D” models with 3D V-Cache. It boosts performance in games, so these could be very good (maybe even the best?) gaming PC processors. AMD has disclosed the specs, but hasn’t given the availability date for these models. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D, AMD’s new processor aimed specifically at gaming is now on sale. Based on the reviews, it seems that the 96MB 3D V-Cache it touts really helps in games significantly. This is the final CPU on the AM4 platform, still with the Zen 3 architecture, so many people are probably torn, eyeing Zen 4 instead. This week AMD announced the April release of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, claimed to be “the ultimate gaming CPU” (at least amongst Ryzen processors, we’ll see if it beats Intel’s 12th-generation Core). However, this CPU has one flaw for enthusiasts – it’s been confirmed that it is not overclockable. AMD has revealed that this is an unfortunate side effect of the 3D V-Cache, the company reassures us it’s not cracking down on OC as such. After Intel, AMD has now presented its new products. These include the Ryzen 5000G APU, Radeon RX 6000M graphics for laptops and FSR upscaling intended as a competition for DLSS from Nvidia. But the processor news was the most interesting thing: 3D silicon chiplets layered on top of each other may come into Ryzen processors, and AMD has shown a prototype, which has 3× larger L3 cache, bringing nice gaming performance boosts.
