Asus ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5080 OC Ed.: Brutalism in PC

With the new generation of GeForce GPUs, Asus is introducing the new ROG Astral series. Positioned at the top of Asus’s lineup, it inherits high-end features from previous ROG Strix models, including a dual BIOS, system fan control, a robust design, factory overclocking, and a large, top-notch cooler. It doesn’t just come with three but a total of four fans. However, this premium package comes at a significant price.

I measured the operating characteristics in the F1 24 benchmark at a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels with the Ultra setting. With this setting, the GPU is almost fully loaded. This is a benchmark with five laps on the Singapore map in wet conditions

The frame rate hovers at around 72 fps.

The card’s clock speed holds steady at around 2893 MHz.

With this setting, the card’s power consumption is around 381 W according to the monitoring, which is still slightly below the 400 W power limit in Performance mode. This means the chip could potentially be pushed even harder.

The total power consumption of the PC, measured with the UT71E multimeter, is shown in dark color. The green line represents the power consumption of the card based on monitoring, and the blue line shows the processor’s power consumption according to monitoring (measured through HWiNFO).

Even in F1, the card’s power consumption remains high at an average of 381 W, and the fan speeds reach 2260 RPM. As a result, the card’s noise level increases further, reaching 52.6 dBA.
