Most Meteor Lake chiplets will be made by TSMC, not Intel

After the Raptor Lake processors due this year, Intel is preparing an ambitious new generation codenamed Meteor Lake for 2023. These chiplet-based processors and will be the first to use the 4nm process. However, it turns out that Intel is only making one of the four chiplets. The company that has always taken pride in its own factories will rely on its main competitor for most of the silicon in the Meteor Lake processor. Leaked RDNA 3 GPU details: Has AMD underestimated Nvidia?

Major news has surfaced about AMD’s upcoming RDNA 3 architecture based 5nm GPUs. These chips will form the basis of Radeon RX 7000 generation graphics cards, which will compete with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4000 GPUs. Angstronomics has published their specifications as well as chip sizes, which raise doubts whether they can have competitive performance. On the other hand, they could be relatively low-cost. Nvidia changed plans, GeForce RTX 4070 will have faster specs

We have been getting leaked spec bits of the upcoming Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 cards based on the “Lovelace” architecture for some time. But things still aren’t set in stone yet (or at least not for all models), so things are still subject to change. And that is what has now happened with the GeForce RTX 4070 SKU. Nvidia is said to have changed the specs and give this graphics card higher performance and less cut-down memory. Read more “Nvidia changed plans, GeForce RTX 4070 will have faster specs” »

Full specs of AMD Ryzen 7000 processors out. Major TDP bump

According to leaks, AMD is expected to release their new desktop processors with Zen 4 architecture and 5nm manufacturing process in six weeks and will formally unveil them before the end of the month. And it seems the parameters of these CPUs are now also out. We even have them from two sources, improving the odds this info is legit. Unfortunately, there’s bad news in the power consumption department: TDPs are getting much worse. Read more “Full specs of AMD Ryzen 7000 processors out. Major TDP bump” »

AMD has self-leaked Ryzen 7000 models. Cheaper 7700X octa-core?

Although AMD’s new desktop processors with Zen 4 architecture and the new AM5 platform seem to be very close with release probably less than two months away, the company managed to keep the specs under wraps. It’s not completely leak-proof though. The company’s own website actually revealed information about the models coming out in the first wave of new processors. There’s four of them, one being somewhat of a surprise. Read more “AMD has self-leaked Ryzen 7000 models. Cheaper 7700X octa-core?” »

China has its own GPU: the Glenfly Arise GT-10C0 from Zhaoxin

There have been multiple reports about Chinese company Glenfly, which is one of the Chinese projects seeking to produce a local GPUs that would not come from abroad. It has now officially revealed the Glenfly Arise GT-10C0, its first discrete graphics card, including full specifications. Seems like it’s probably coming soon and will be an important complement to alternative Chinese CPUs like Loongson that can’t power PCs without a GPU. Five Intel Arc GPUs coming: A750 with 448 EUs is close to A770

More information is gradually coming in on Intel’s first generation of discrete gaming GPUs, the Arc graphics cards. Intel recently revealed the performance of Arc A750, said to outperform GeForce RTX 3060 cards. It won’t be the fastest SKU, now Intel began showcasing the more powerful A770 model. We now have more detail, and it seems that A770 won’t push the performance as high above the A750 card as we had hoped. Read more “Five Intel Arc GPUs coming: A750 with 448 EUs is close to A770” »

Intel Sapphire Rapids HEDT processor SKUs leaked: up to 56 cores

Intel will release a new generation of server processors this year codenamed “Sapphire Rapids”. These will introduce support for PCI Express 5.0, DDR5 memory and, most importantly, a new high-performance CPU architecture derived from the successful Alder Lake processors. But Sapphire Rapids CPUs are also heading to workstations and high-end desktops, and now the specs for these desktop models have been leaked. Nvidia cuts GPU prices, for RTX 3080 12GB and higher cards

Prices for Nvidia’s high-end GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU started to drop last week. Reports are coming in that Nvidia is also discounting a number of other models as well, and developments in e-tailers seem to confirm this. So it’s looking more and more like the the rumours of large Ampere cards excess stock aren’t completely off the mark. The discounts are probably an attempt to get rid of these GPUs before the next generation arrives. Read more “Nvidia cuts GPU prices, for RTX 3080 12GB and higher cards” »

At last, a Mini-ITX board with Intel Jasper Lake SoCs. And it is fanless

One of the casualties of chip crisis were the low-power Celeron and Pentium processors of the “Atom” lineage. It’s a year and a half since Intel launched the 10nm Jasper Lake generation with Tremont cores but the supply has likely been insufficient till now, there are virtually no desktop boards for low-power builds. Things seem to be getting better finally and Mini-ITX boards with Jasper Lake are coming. Fanless ones, even. Read more “At last, a Mini-ITX board with Intel Jasper Lake SoCs. And it is fanless” »

Intel Raptor Lake and Z790 platform will lack PCIe 5.0 for SSDs

Curiously, even though Intel Raptor Lake CPUs are only three months away, there’s virtually no word on the 700-series chipsets and motherboards that should come with the new CPUs. Last week, however, a leaked document was posted on the Internet, in which Intel introduces the Raptor Lake platform, the CPU and the new chipsets. The most surprising bit is that the new boards won’t bring the one feature that was most expected of them. Read more “Intel Raptor Lake and Z790 platform will lack PCIe 5.0 for SSDs” »

Cortex-A715: new efficiency-first ARM core (architecture analysis)

ARM has launched the Cortex-X3 architecture, which will be the new “big” high-perfromance CPU core for smartphones and laptops in the company’s lineup. It will however be complemented by a new Cortex-A715. This line of cores (Cortex-A76 to A78, then A710), which used to be ARM’s big cores, seems to be turning into cores tuned for best performance in a small footprint and power draw, not unlike Intel’s E-Cores. Cortex-X3: the new fastest core from ARM (architecture analysis)

ARM has been introducing new CPU cores annually for the last few years. This year, the company is unveiling the second generation of CPU cores based on the ARMv9 instruction set. Among them, a new highest-performance Cortex-X3 core with significantly expanded computing resources and 6 ALUs like Apple’s cores. This architecture will boost the single-core performance of Android phones, but it’s supposed to go into laptops as well.
