Intel is expected to release a new platform of high-end processors based on the Sapphire Rapids Xeons server CPUs this fall. It would thus once again return to an area it had essentially abandoned with the decline of the X299 platform and its high-end processors. But strangely enough, a report has now surfaced that Intel is preparing surprise high-end CPUs, never known until now: something called Alder Lake-X. Read more “Surprise in HEDT CPUs? Intel reportedly preparing Alder Lake-X”

BIOS bugs inflate Pentium G7400’s power draw by up to 100 %
Manufacturers don’t bother too much with tuning BIOSes for cheaper processors. As a result of mishandled power management, the processor may have an inadequately high power draw in the default settings. In addition, there is poor cooling and lower performance than there should be. However, this is not a thing you can’t fix, you just need to know where, what and how to adjust. You’ll learn that too from this article. Read more “BIOS bugs inflate Pentium G7400’s power draw by up to 100 %”
Intel Pentium G7400: For what are two cores with HT (not) enough?
From the top, we gradually worked our way down to the class of the iconic Pentium. Its design is quite conservative by today’s standards. The performance of the dual-core processor is at the limit, which begins to complicate the actual execution of the tests. One of the biggest appeals is the low power draw, but that may not be worth much if your processor can’t handle your demands in real time. Or can it? First test of Zen 4 in Geekbench, Cache capacities confirmed
Last week, alleged leaks painted the future high-end Ryzen 9 processor lineup in AMD’s upcoming 5nm CPU generation. Now an actual sample of Zen 4 has surfaced – someone tested it in Geekbench and the result made it into the public database. This is apparently the first ever such leak, which may illustrate some of the architectural changes AMD is planning in the new cores. Zen 4 Ryzen 9’s still with only 16 cores. 170 W, DDR4 support?
Sometime in the second half of the year, AMD should finally release the new AM5 desktop platform with DDR5 memory after six years of AM4 socket (which premiered in 2016). That will bring us the much awaited 5nm Ryzen 7000 CPUs with Zen 4 architecture, and it’s about time we got some leaked details. Now one such has come up: information on the core count and also watt count of Ryzen 9 models from the 7000 generation. Read more “Zen 4 Ryzen 9’s still with only 16 cores. 170 W, DDR4 support?”
Ryzen 7 5800X3D with V-Cache is locked, impossible to overclock
This week AMD announced the April release of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, claimed to be “the ultimate gaming CPU” (at least amongst Ryzen processors, we’ll see if it beats Intel’s 12th-generation Core). However, this CPU has one flaw for enthusiasts – it’s been confirmed that it is not overclockable. AMD has revealed that this is an unfortunate side effect of the 3D V-Cache, the company reassures us it’s not cracking down on OC as such. Test of the AMD CPU with the biggest price drop, the Ryzen 7 5800X
Why did we ignore the Ryzen 7 5800X for a long time and only add it to our tests now? Because it had a higher price, which made other models more attractive. However, thanks to AMD’s recent CPU price cuts, the R7 5800X will have its place in the market even after the release of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with 3D V-Cache. That excellent price/raw (multi-threaded) performance ratio won’t be taken away from the 5800X. Read more “Test of the AMD CPU with the biggest price drop, the Ryzen 7 5800X”
More new budget AMD CPUs, including the quad-core Ryzen 3 5100
AMD is now preparing a sort of mid-generation refresh of its CPU and GPU offerings – Ryzen 5000 and Radeon RX 6000. There have been several reports about them in the last few days, but we’ll have to add one more. It looks like the company will be releasing even more CPUs than the six new models we wrote about last time. Seems the chip crisis is finally getting better and that will bring us a quad-core Zen 3, for example. Read more “More new budget AMD CPUs, including the quad-core Ryzen 3 5100”
The same and yet different. Intel Core i5-12400 duel (H0 vs. C0)
We have a shocking revelation! And now, seriously. Different Core i5-12400 processor steppings differ not only in S-Spec code, but also in behavior in practice. Some of the expectations were confirmed, some were not. More importantly, you can choose the more suitable of the two options. But the best part is that everyone can evaluate the “better” variant differently. The differences across these processors must be negligible? No way… Read more “The same and yet different. Specs of the integrated GPU coming to Zen 4 Ryzen CPUs leaked
One of the drawbacks of the higher-tier Ryzen processors (3000X, 5000X models) is that they do not have an integrated GPU. However, this should change with the new 5nm Ryzen 7000 generation with Zen 4 architecture. AMD hasn’t announced it yet, but according to numerous leaks, this generation will also already provide integrated graphics. Now another proof has emerged and also some indication of its specs. Intel Core i3-12100F: No. 1 for nimble PCs at a bargain
We recently enjoyed the pleasing results of the Core i3-10105F here, and that processor already has a successor – the 12100F. It presents an option in the Alder Lake family for users on a budget. But that doesn’t mean it will limit you in performance. Plus, in target environments (especially simpler gaming PC builds), the latest Core i3 is nicely power-efficient without breaking your bank account. Zen 4 & AM5 will come sooner than thought. Ryzen 7000 in summer
Finally getting new architecture in desktop (and finally using a modern manufacturing process) has reinvigorated Intel processors. It looks like AMD is under pressure now, as it has reportedly decided to make a move that doesn’t happen often: its much-anticipated next generation of 5nm processors with Zen 4 architecture may be coming to market much sooner than originally planned. Presumably to respond to Intel’s consolidation. Read more “Zen 4 & AM5 will come sooner than thought. Ryzen 7000 in summer”
Overclocking 65W Alder Lake processors: which boards can do it?
Last month, we were pleasantly surprised by the news that Intel’s new desktop platform (Core 12th Generation/Alder Lake) CPUs can be overclocked via BCLK. Despite Intel seeking to only allow OC on the more expensive K-series enthusiast models. We took a look at which boards currently make it possible and if it’s worth it. Because whether BCLK OC helps or not depends on the cost of the overall setup more than anything else. Read more “Overclocking 65W Alder Lake processors: which boards can do it?”
Core i9-12900KS to come in Q1. 5.5 GHz enabled via Enhanced TVB
We have already reported on new Alder Lake CPUs released or introduced by Intel at CES 2022 (65W and 35W desktop models, 45W models for laptops a 9–28W mobile versions). But the company has pre-announced another addition: Core i9-12900KS. Intel has already confirmed and displayed this (so far) mightiest Alder Lake CPU and even set a rough release schedule. And we also learned the secret that is behind its extreme clocks. Read more “Core i9-12900KS to come in Q1. 5.5 GHz enabled via Enhanced TVB”
AM5 socket and Ryzen 7000 shown. Zen 4 capable of 5 GHz all-core
AMD has announced the release of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU with 3D V-Cache technology bound for spring and also talked its desktop CPU successors with Zen 4 architecture, planned to arrive this year. The company has shared the first pictures of the Ryzen 7000 CPUs and their AM5 sockets. AMD has further shown a demo, according to which the Zen 4 should be able to reach 5 GHz clocks on all cores, a great news for the 5nm technology. Read more “AM5 socket and Ryzen 7000 shown.
