Full specs of AMD Ryzen 7000 processors out. Major TDP bump

According to leaks, AMD is expected to release their new desktop processors with Zen 4 architecture and 5nm manufacturing process in six weeks and will formally unveil them before the end of the month. And it seems the parameters of these CPUs are now also out. We even have them from two sources, improving the odds this info is legit. Unfortunately, there’s bad news in the power consumption department: TDPs are getting much worse. Read more “Full specs of AMD Ryzen 7000 processors out. Major TDP bump” »

Antec Storm 120 fans are out (and on their way to our testlab)

After the June announcement, it seems that Antec has everything ready to ship the Storm 120 fans going on sale. We don’t usually write two news articles about one fan, but we’re going to make an exception now. Apart from the fact that the price is already known, this one should mainly be a mid-range dark horse according to the design details. Technically the Storm 120 look really good and efficient. Commentary: Is adding a spatula to the Noctua NT-H1 useful?

Noctua has quietly, almost secretly, added a new package of NT-H1 thermal paste with the additional designation SW. These are the initials of the English words spatula and wipes. It is with this accessory that the NT-H1 SW pack is supplemented. And in particular, the addition of the spatula raises the question of whether Noctua has revised the recommended technique in applying thermal paste. AMD has self-leaked Ryzen 7000 models. Cheaper 7700X octa-core?

Although AMD’s new desktop processors with Zen 4 architecture and the new AM5 platform seem to be very close with release probably less than two months away, the company managed to keep the specs under wraps. It’s not completely leak-proof though. The company’s own website actually revealed information about the models coming out in the first wave of new processors. There’s four of them, one being somewhat of a surprise. Read more “AMD has self-leaked Ryzen 7000 models. Cheaper 7700X octa-core?” »

China has its own GPU: the Glenfly Arise GT-10C0 from Zhaoxin

There have been multiple reports about Chinese company Glenfly, which is one of the Chinese projects seeking to produce a local GPUs that would not come from abroad. It has now officially revealed the Glenfly Arise GT-10C0, its first discrete graphics card, including full specifications. Seems like it’s probably coming soon and will be an important complement to alternative Chinese CPUs like Loongson that can’t power PCs without a GPU. Five Intel Arc GPUs coming: A750 with 448 EUs is close to A770

More information is gradually coming in on Intel’s first generation of discrete gaming GPUs, the Arc graphics cards. Intel recently revealed the performance of Arc A750, said to outperform GeForce RTX 3060 cards. It won’t be the fastest SKU, now Intel began showcasing the more powerful A770 model. We now have more detail, and it seems that A770 won’t push the performance as high above the A750 card as we had hoped. Read more “Five Intel Arc GPUs coming: A750 with 448 EUs is close to A770” »

Intel Sapphire Rapids HEDT processor SKUs leaked: up to 56 cores

Intel will release a new generation of server processors this year codenamed “Sapphire Rapids”. These will introduce support for PCI Express 5.0, DDR5 memory and, most importantly, a new high-performance CPU architecture derived from the successful Alder Lake processors. But Sapphire Rapids CPUs are also heading to workstations and high-end desktops, and now the specs for these desktop models have been leaked. Nvidia cuts GPU prices, for RTX 3080 12GB and higher cards

Prices for Nvidia’s high-end GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU started to drop last week. Reports are coming in that Nvidia is also discounting a number of other models as well, and developments in e-tailers seem to confirm this. So it’s looking more and more like the the rumours of large Ampere cards excess stock aren’t completely off the mark. The discounts are probably an attempt to get rid of these GPUs before the next generation arrives. Read more “Nvidia cuts GPU prices, for RTX 3080 12GB and higher cards” »

Thermaltake: Rotate a fan? Nah, replace the rotor!

Just when it seems that the pointlessness of some things must have gone through the roof, along comes SWAFAN 12/14 RGB. We can’t put it any other way, Thermaltake is taking advantage of the fact that casual users don’t know how a fan works. After all, paying for two rotors is a better “bargain” than having to orient one as you need it. At least if they didn’t have the same performance characteristics… That’s not how elite companies are built. Read more “Thermaltake: Rotate a fan? Nah, replace the rotor!” »

At last, a Mini-ITX board with Intel Jasper Lake SoCs. And it is fanless

One of the casualties of chip crisis were the low-power Celeron and Pentium processors of the “Atom” lineage. It’s a year and a half since Intel launched the 10nm Jasper Lake generation with Tremont cores but the supply has likely been insufficient till now, there are virtually no desktop boards for low-power builds. Things seem to be getting better finally and Mini-ITX boards with Jasper Lake are coming. Fanless ones, even. Read more “At last, a Mini-ITX board with Intel Jasper Lake SoCs. And it is fanless” »

Intel Raptor Lake and Z790 platform will lack PCIe 5.0 for SSDs

Curiously, even though Intel Raptor Lake CPUs are only three months away, there’s virtually no word on the 700-series chipsets and motherboards that should come with the new CPUs. Last week, however, a leaked document was posted on the Internet, in which Intel introduces the Raptor Lake platform, the CPU and the new chipsets. The most surprising bit is that the new boards won’t bring the one feature that was most expected of them. Read more “Intel Raptor Lake and Z790 platform will lack PCIe 5.0 for SSDs” »

BeQuiet! revealed Silent Wings (Pro) 4’s airflow and static pressure

We finally have something to grab onto. Although you still can’t buy Silent Wings 4 fans, BeQuiet! has now officially released them, complete with detailed specs. This is something we’re interested in, and get this: we already have a comparison with the Noctua NF-A12x25 as well. Admittedly it’s a tricky one and we’re basing it on what BeQuiet! claims, but to set the mood for the upcoming tests it’s better than nothing. Intel Arc A380 GPU performance is worse than RX 6400 after all

After missing previous 2021 and Q1 2022 deadlines, Intel Arc discrete desktop graphics cards with the Xe HPG gaming architecture went on sale in China this month. But instead of some bombastic arrival, Intel is releasing them rather quietly, first only in China and only in the OEM market. But maybe that’s because they’re not really impressive yet – the first Arc A380 model seems to be falling well short of expectations in tests. A matter of (dis)honesty: expensive NZXT paste with only 6.3 W/mk?

NZXT has released its first thermal paste and looking at its parameters opens the topic of what quality the manufacturers present us on paper. However, NXZT is probably not pretentious, on the contrary, the paper thermal conductivity of their thermal paste is surprisingly low considering the price. Is this the reality, are other manufacturers (with two to three times higher thermal conductivity values) misleading or is NZXT thermal paste uncompetitive? Summer looks exciting, BeQuiet! prepares the Silent Wings (Pro) 4

The fourth generation of the new BeQuiet! Silent Wings fans have all the ingredients to reach the very pinnacle of efficiency. The rotor is based on the proven shape of long, distinctively curved blades. These are, moreover, very close to the frame to maximize pressure. After this parameter, you probably already think of Noctua’s “sterrox” fan, which, however, the BeQuiet! one can surpass with its typical grooves.
