Following the analysis of details, we now move on to the test results. These demonstrate that Fractal Design’s Momentum fans truly deliver. Just how well is ultimately up to each of you to judge. One factor is the aerodynamic design of the fans, another is the overall airflow design of the case, and yet another is the specific components being cooled. What we can conclude, however, is that the Meshify 3 XL is suitable even for the most demanding builds.
Evaluation
First things first – the Meshify 3 XL is a truly large case, capable of accommodating virtually any components you might wish to install.
The tested variant (Ambience Pro RGB Black TG Light Tint) comes equipped with stylishly illuminated fans, which may be more than enough for some users. The USB-C connector is part of the front panel as standard, allowing for convenient connection of modern devices from an easily accessible location. Then there are the cooling tests, which reveal the first real-world results for the new Momentum fans.
It’s important to note that these fans are being introduced under unique circumstances – namely their integration into a specific case in a specific test scenario, which in turn is defined by the test components used. Even though, for understandable reasons, the test system uses a lower-power processor and a similarly “lower-end” graphics card (so that the configuration can also fit into smaller cases for broader comparison), we can still say that the “cooling performance” of the Meshify 3 XL is high. And that’s at noise levels you’d most likely describe as “quiet.” Naturally, this makes sense and supports the notion of efficient cooling in terms of the ratio of noise levels to the system’s components temperature.
Increasing noise – or more precisely, increasing airflow from system fans – generally helps lower temperatures, as airflow through the case is faster. However, the differences are relatively small. We wouldn’t recommend running the fans at higher speeds unnecessarily. To cool even the highest-end components (including, say, a GeForce RTX 5090), a relatively moderate fan speed should suffice, and everything will remain within safe operating limits.
Fractal Design manages the entire fan system through a new hub to which the fans are fully connected (i.e., both motor and ARGB LEDs) via USB-C connectors. This doesn’t mean PWM control isn’t available – it is. A synchronization cable (connected from the hub) allows the motherboard to transmit PWM duty cycle data, which the case’s fans respond to. All fans connected to the hub will share the same PWM signal. Whether that makes sense depends on the specific situation.
Ultimately, it all depends on your internal layout and cooling strategy. This will vary by user, and once again, the Meshify 3 XL is a highly flexible case. It features up to ten fan positions, can accommodate three large radiators, virtually any height of tower CPU cooler, and a graphics card so large that you won’t need to worry about its size. Almost anything is possible. It’s just a matter of finding the exact configuration that works best for you.
