Refresh of Ryzen 5000 desktop processors with Zen 3 architecture seems to be approaching. Vermeer chips, on which the current Ryzen 5000X models are based, have now appeared with a brand new B2 stepping. AMD might use refreshed CPU models as a response to Intel releasing the Rocket Lake 11th generation Core desktop processors. Chips with the B2 stepping seem to achieve higher clock speed, so they could finally reach 5 GHz officially. Read more “Ryzen 5000 XT sample leak: stepping B2 to bring 5 GHz clock”

AMD Strix Point: 3nm Ryzen 8000 with Zen 5 cores to be big.LITTLE
We’ve known for a long time that Intel’s next processors will be hybrid in both laptops and even desktops, combining little and big cores in the manner of big.LITTLE ARM processors in mobile phones. Some doubt remains about the viability of this approach with Windows platform or PC in general. But now there are reports that it’s not going to be just Intel. AMD could also go for similar hybrid architecture. Read more “AMD Strix Point: 3nm Ryzen 8000 with Zen 5 cores to be big.LITTLE”
Intel Rocket Lake processor models, specs and prices revealed
The wait for Intel desktop processors with the new architecture is almost over. The 11th generation Core for desktop was officially released last week and it’s just days to sales and reviews. Intel has now officially announced the complete specifications and especially the prices of all models. The most powerful Core i9-11900K will go for $ 539 or almost € 550, but a 6-core for cheap gaming PCs will go for mere € 160/$ 157. Release dates of Intel Rocket Lake and 10nm Alder Lake leaked
Intel has kept offering desktop processors with Skylake architecture for five and a half years. Ironically it looks like now, two new architectures will follow each other in just nine months, both with a 20% increase in IPC: according to current information, the Rocket Lake processors (11th gen Core) will be released in March 30, but 12th generation Alder Lake and the new LGA 1700 platform are set to go on sale in December. Recycling in China: laptop CPUs turned into LGA 1151 upgrades
There’s an interesting industry built on reusing old hardware in China. For example Xeon E5 CPUs and newly-produced gaming motherboards for them, but recently they started converting mobile Intel BGA processors into socketed CPUs for desktop. Not so old Comet Lake chips with six and eight cores are now being offered this way and you can even use them to upgrade B150/Z170/Z270 series boards, which officially only support quad-cores. Cheaper Zen 3 in early 2021: AMD to launch Ryzen 5 5600 at $220
The Ryzen 5000 processors announced last week give AMD a shot at becoming the performance king fully overtaking Intel this generation, however they brought unwelcome news, too. Particularly the price: the cheapest Zen 3 based Ryzen 5 5600X with just six cores will cost $299, a long stretch from Zen 2 based Ryzen 5 3600. But it seems this might improve soonish as AMD is reportedly readying cheaper hexa-core Ryzen 5 5600. Read more “Cheaper Zen 3 in early 2021: AMD to launch Ryzen 5 5600 at $220”
AMD Ryzen 3 3300X – when cheaper Matisse is not enough
The duel of Ryzen 3 3100 and Intel Core i3-10100 processors showed that AMD can beat Intel in most tests at a lower price. However, the R3 3100 is not the only new model introduced by the manufacturer. The 3300X is more powerful, with higher clock speed and, coincidentally, it also sells for the same price as the Ci3-10100. In addition to significantly higher clock speed, it also has different CCD composition. Read more “AMD Ryzen 3 3300X – when cheaper Matisse is not enough”
Duel of processors: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 vs. Intel Core i3-10100
A year has passed since the introduction of AMD’s Ryzen third generation, but the product line was still not complete. We were waiting for the lowest line to be refreshed with the designation Ryzen 3. In the meantime, the 10th generation of Intel Core processors has been released, including new i3 SKUs. We got novelties from both manufacturers, namely Ryzen 3 3100 and Core i3-10100. Which one is better? Read more “Duel of processors: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 vs. Intel Core i3-10100”
Intel Core i7-10700K: lower digit, lower price, higher performance?
In the latest Core i9-10900K test, we found it to be great for high fps games, but the power draw, price and performance are not as good as the competition, AMD, offers. Intel still maintained its lead in games, but the 10900K is definitely not an ideal processor. If games are your priority, the alternative may be the Core i7-10700K which is actually just a redesignated and slightly modified Core i9-9900K. Intel Core i9-10900K: The Last of the Mohicans
The 10th generation of Intel Core processors, called Comet Lake-S, is the latest iteration of Skylake and, unlike the mobile Ice Lake, is still 14 nm. However, this constant tuning of this manufacturing process has resulted in record frequencies that are specifically related to the most powerful processor currently in the LGA 1200 socket. Now the only question is whether this will be enough for the Ryzen 9 3900X. Read more “Intel Core i9-10900K: The Last of the Mohicans”
Ryzen processors with iGPU and 35W TDP
For computers with a low consumption, and even more for passive configurations, it is good to have a processor with reduced TDP, ideally 35 W or lower. Intel have such models on the market (T models), but they are still missing in AMD’s offer, at least among their new Zen CPUs. This is about to change with the arrival of new Ryzen (4 cores + iGPU) based on APU Raven Ridge. Read more “Ryzen processors with iGPU and 35W TDP”
