We tried a DIY silon dust filter instead of traditional nylon. Result?

Socks, stockings or tights made of silon also attract uses other than on our legs. Enthusiasts can use the material to make, for example, a dust filter for a PC fan. It’s effectiveness then depends on the thickness of the silon fibre. However, tests show that whatever type you use, it is a rather unsuitable solution. And it’s also difficult for robbers who don’t worry too much about the mask and just need a visit to the drugstore before the job.

Aorus GeForce RTX 5080 Master: What’s the fourth fan’s benefit?

Some tower CPU coolers use two fans. The front one pushes air into the fin stack and a rear fan pulls it through. This push–pull setup improves the efficiency of heat removal from the heatsink and can lower temperatures by a few degrees. You’ll find the same idea in the new generation of graphics cards from Asus and Gigabyte. Here, we look at how a fourth fan affects noise levels and temperatures on the Aorus GeForce RTX 5080 Master 16G. Read more “Aorus GeForce RTX 5080 Master: What’s the fourth fan’s benefit?” »

Tweaking GeForce RTX 5070: Overclocking, Undervolt and Cooling

Prime GeForce RTX 5070 from Asus is a solid base for further tuning. We’ll test the options GPU Boost offers. We’ll measure how core and memory frequencies affect performance. We’ll also look at how the power limit influences the card’s behavior and how fan speed affects temperatures and clocks. Finally, we’ll add tips on lowering power draw while keeping performance, or boosting performance at similar power draw. Read more “Tweaking GeForce RTX 5070: Overclocking, Undervolt and Cooling” »

GeForce RTX 3080 vs. RTX 5080 Thermals: Normal or Overheating?

Nvidia surprised many by changing the boost limits on the new GeForce RTX 50 series, removing the option to set a temperature limit during overclocking. Now, only the power limit is adjustable, and specs list only the GPU’s maximum temperature. We’ll look at how this affects GPU Boost compared to the RTX 30 series, what happens to clock speeds and performance when limits are hit, and how to tell if your GeForce is overheating. 1. I live in a very dusty home and decided to do exactly this after noticing my per fan nylon filters (SilverStone FF123) plus the front case filter (Corsair 4000D) were not enough to stop dust ingress so it’s really cool to see this tested, thanks!

For me the best way to make use of it was to cut a “leg” off, remove the “foot” and slide my cases intergrated front filter into the resulting tube of material. The material is thin enough the filter still fits no problem and I get two laters of material. I still see some dust on the nylon filters in front of the fans but very little dust passes into the system.

As shown in the tests it does reduce airflow but my 3x Arctic P12s at ~850 rpm still get enough air into the case. It is funny though I got an airflow focused case and I blocked off all holes except where there are fans giving it poor airflow! Seeing the dust build up I do consider my PC an air purifier now though

    1. Thank you for sharing such valuable information. I’m sure it will be useful—and perhaps even inspiring—to some of our readers. 🙂
