If you’re planning to buy an Nvidia graphics card, it may be worth waiting. Nvidia apparently works on a “Super” branded refresh GeForce RTX 5000 cards. In the past, Super models have often offered significantly better specs and a superior price-to-performance ratio than the first wave of cards in a given generation, so the RTX 5000 Super lineup could also improve the product stack like that—including upping the problematic VRAM capacity.
The GeForce RTX 5000 Super graphics cards, which were expected to replace or complement the original lineup of Blackwell architecture-based models, were initially anticipated to arrive as soon as in late 2025, or in early 2026. However, Nvidia canceled them last year, or at least put their release plans on indefinite hold, undoubtedly because of the memory pricing situation. These cards were expected to use 24 Gb (3 GB) GDDR7 chips, increasing VRAM capacity by 50%.
However, it appears that Nvidia has changed its plans once again. Not long ago, reports emerged that the company had resumed preparations to launch these upgraded models, and now we have indirect confirmation. Power supply manufacturer Seasonic has added data for the GeForce RTX 5080 Super—which is expected to be the fastest card in the Super refresh lineup (although not faster than the RTX 5090)—to the PSU wattage calculator on the company’s website.
While this is not an entirely official or definitive indication that the graphics card is on its way, major PSU manufacturers in particular (Seasonic is one of the ODM companies that actually manufactures power supplies, rather than simply being a smaller brand without its own manufacturing capacity) are sometimes provided with information about upcoming GPU models under NDA so they can prepare compatible power supplies in advance. The addition of the RTX 5080 Super to the calculator may therefore genuinely indicate that Nvidia has set the gears in motion for the Super lineup launch and is already coordinating with its partners.
According to the calculator’s data, the GeForce RTX 5080 Super could have a TDP of 415 W—higher than the current GeForce RTX 5080 (which may also slightly increase the risk of 12V-2×6 connector overheating and possibly melting). In addition to this model, Seasonic’s calculator also includes entries for the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Super (350 W TDP) and RTX 5070 Super (275 W).

However, it cannot be ruled out that Nvidia has revised the specifications since then. While the GPU, PCB, and memory configuration must be finalized well in advance, there is still flexibility regarding clock speeds, the number of enabled functional units, and TDP. These parameters can be adjusted right up until the point when the firmware is flashed onto the cards—for example, if Nvidia needs to respond to changing market conditions or competitor product launches or pricing action.
At present, these graphics cards appear to be scheduled for release in January, with Nvidia expected to announce them at CES 2027. That would put their launch roughly six months away.
