SilentiumPC Fera 3 RGB – Colorful evolution of a proven classic

The recently tested SilentiumPC Fera 3 cooler did not do badly in our tests, but it was a bit noisy. Today we will look at a cooler from the same family, i.e. SilentiumPC Fera 3 RGB. As the name suggests, this cooler offers RGB backlighting. In addition, the entire heatsink is a few millimeters lower and a different fan is also used. I just hope that these differences will not have a negative effect under stress tests. Read more “SilentiumPC Fera 3 RGB – Colorful evolution of a proven classic” »

Asus ROG Strix XG438Q – almost my next monitor

4K monitors are no longer unusual today. However, when labels like 120 Hz, HDR or FreeSync complement 4K, more than one player will start paying attention. I consider the ROG Strix XG438Q to be one of the most interesting gaming monitors on the market, as it has long been on my personal watchlist, too. Let’s take a look at this oversized breathtaking gaming display. Read more “Asus ROG Strix XG438Q – almost my next monitor” »

SilentiumPC Fera 3 – A new test of an older classics

The SilentiumPC Fera 3 cooler probably doesn’t need to be introduced. This popular cooler is often installed in computer builds, where favorable price-performance ratio is a big deal. It also presents direct competition for the recently tested Freezer 34 from Arctic. In addition, I plan to supplement this pair soon with a test of the recently released 212 Evo V2 cooler from Cooler Master, and I will also add Windale 4 from FSP. Philips 439P9H – wide boy with a camera for multitasking

Ultrawide monitors have not only gaming but also work use. This is especially the case when it comes to the so-called super ultrawide monitors or pieces with an aspect ratio of 32:10. This is exactly where the Philips 439P9H fits. It impressed us with features, such as rich port selection or an IR camera for Windows Hello. It also offers a KVM switch for connecting accessories to two computers at once and easily switching between them. Read more “Philips 439P9H – wide boy with a camera for multitasking” »

Zalman S5: Cheap case with a touch of the past

Many of you know Zalman as a manufacturer of cheaper computer cases. In today’s review, we have chosen the S5 from this company. It got into my hands thanks to Ľubo, who picked it for his own needs and before he uses it, I will carry out a little autopsy of it. This was also the original intention, to make a general overview and compare with the price-equivalent Chieftec Hawk or MSI Forge 100M cases, which we have already tested. Lenovo Legion Y740S – gaming laptop without a dGPU?

Gaming laptops in a thin body often suffer from two flaws – overheating and short battery life. What to do if you want high processor performance, but in a thin body, with good battery and at the same time not lose graphics performance when you are at home or at work? A gaming notebook with dedicated graphics card will always be heavier than an ultrabook and will not offer such battery life. On the other hand, ultrabooks lack CPU performance. The Legion Y740S resolves this dilemma. Read more “Lenovo Legion Y740S – gaming laptop without a dGPU?” »

Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 – Quality does not have to cost a lot

I’ve recently tested the popular Arctic Freezer 34 air cooler, which eventually won an editorial award. Now I would like to give a liquid all-in-one cooler from the same manufacturer a hard time on a hot processor. We will see if Arctic can design an AIO cooler as well as it did with an air cooler. Liquid Freezer II 240 should offer a very interesting price to performance ratio without unnecessary decoration. Read more “Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 – Quality does not have to cost a lot” »

G-Drive Mobile Pro SSD – 3 GB/s near at hand

G-Technology may be a lesser-known brand at first glance, but when I say names like WD and SanDisk, you’re sure to know what I mean. Of the three interconnected brands, G-Drive is profiled as the premium one, aimed mainly at creators and MacOS users. Mobile Pro SSD is a new addition to the family, which will impress with its Thunderbolt 3 connection and extreme speeds well above 1 GB/s. Read more “G-Drive Mobile Pro SSD – 3 GB/s near at hand” »

AMD X570 cooler: Will 4 heatsinks beat a VRAM fan?

The hated fans in the AMD X570 chipset cooler would rather be turned into a proper heatsink by many users. In reality, however, it is not as easy as it may seem. Why don’t manufacturers do it on their own? We tested different speed modes with a fan and compared them with a pure heatsink and also one supplemented by small passive coolers with needles. MSI Cubi 5 10M-035EU: Small, power-efficient, but kinda expensive

There is an increasing trend to shrink hardware that does not need to be unnecessarily large. A good example of this is the Cubi 5 computer in a case with a volume of only three quarters of a liter. You don’t have to worry about storing it. It will not take much space on the table and I can imagine it hanging on one of the monitors. It performs very well functionally, but the question remains whether it is worthy of its purchase price. Read more “MSI Cubi 5 10M-035EU: Small, power-efficient, but kinda expensive” »

Something for Asus fans: a complete ROG build in the Z11 case

A very untraditional and relatively unique case has come to our editorial office. It is the ROG Z11, which the manufacturer introduced at the beginning of the year at CES 2020. The case hides several specialties, such as the possibility of vertical and horizontal positioning or a slightly curved motherboard tray. To make matters better, we fitted the case more or less exclusively with ROG components, thus creating a kind of full-on Asus build. WD Black P50: 20-gigabit USB 3.2 gen 2×2 in action

I first saw this novelty called P50 Game Drive last September during our visit to Berlin at IFA 2019. In addition to its non-traditional design, this external SSD is particularly interesting for its unique connection. This is one of the first storage disks to use the fastest form of the USB protocol labelled as 3.2 gen 2×2 , which offers speeds of up to 20 Gbps. Until the arrival of the 4.0 standard, this is the fastest universally available USB. Read more “WD Black P50: 20-gigabit USB 3.2 gen 2×2 in action” »

Liquid metal in a laptop may not always reduce heating (test)

Replacing inefficient thermal paste with liquid metal is very popular in high-performance laptops. And it is no longer exclusively an enthusiastic modification. In this way, for example Asus in ROG G703 improved its cooling. However, accelerating the heat dissipation from the dies may be unhelpful in some circumstances. No matter how strange and weird it may sound so far, it has a rational justification. See what may surprise you. Read more “Liquid metal in a laptop may not always reduce heating (test)” »

MSI GS66: All black razor with Core i9 and RTX 2080 Super

GS series includes a stylish and compact family of high-performance MSI laptops and the GS66 Stealth is its latest addition. I’ve always had a weakness for thin but powerful devices and that’s exactly what GS meets. However, with the high performance of Core i9 and RTX 2080 Super, the question arises as to how thermal management is handled. In less than 2 cm thin and about 2.1 kg body, it is really a challenge to deal with such powerful components. Read more “MSI GS66: All black razor with Core i9 and RTX 2080 Super” »

WD My Passport SSD 2020 – 2nd generation of the pocket SSD

WD with the My Passport line is one of the largest manufacturers of external storage. I myself have three pieces with a capacity of 2–4 TB. In 2017, they launched the My Passport SSD, which belonged to the first generation of external SSDs. It impressed us mainly with its unique design and compact dimensions, but unfortunately it never got into my hands. However, this is now changing, as we have received an upgraded version with the same name for 2020. Read more “WD My Passport SSD 2020 – 2nd generation of the pocket SSD” »
