One of the fastest, Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24G

For a long time they were missing in our test database, but now we are adding them – the results of a GeForce RTX 4090. When it comes to gaming performance, graphics cards with AD102 GPUs have no competition, but it often costs an extreme 450 W. The Gigabyte Windforce cooler handles such an onslaught by a wide margin though, on top of, and now hold on to your hats, non-loud coils, somewhere on the level of the RTX 3060 (Ti). Really. AMD, like Nvidia, will produce chips at Samsung, on a 4nm node

Against expectations, Intel will start manufacturing processors at TSMC. Similar diversification may occur with AMD, who relied almost entirely on TSMC lately. But according to unofficial reports, the company will start manufacturing some of its chips at Korea’s Samsung, much like Nvidia recently did with some of its GPUs. This would reduce AMD’s dependence on a single supplier, but the move likely seeks to cut costs, too. Read more “AMD, like Nvidia, will produce chips at Samsung, on a 4nm node” »

Radeon RX 7600 XT launch date leaked: less than four weeks away

A few days ago, reports started surfacing that more affordable Radeon graphics cards with RDNA 3 architecture based on the Navi 33 chip might finally be coming to market. They stated that these cards could be exhibited (just that at that point) at Computex 2023 during (May 30–June 2). But it might all happen faster. According to information posted by YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead, there card should be available on the shelves before then. Radeon power draw finally stays low with multi-monitor setups

In a multi-monitor setup, graphics cards naturally have higher power draw, and in some cases significantly so. But it seems that, at least with the RX 7900 XT (Sapphire Pulse), this is no longer the case. We know from measurements that the increase in power draw of this card is very low, several times lower than it used to be in the past in all the older models we have tested. Basically, we can say that the “problem is solved”. Read more “Radeon power draw finally stays low with multi-monitor setups” »

Sapphire RX 7900 XT Pulse: RTX 4070 Ti crushed in rasterization

While someone may find the RX 7900 XT graphics card to be the most attractive within its price range, another may see the RTX 4070 Ti in that position. And both are right, they might just disagree on priorities. Outside of ray-tracing graphics, the Radeon is even attacking the RTX 4080. Admittedly this is at the expense of, say, worse technological balance and also worse power efficiency, but if someone doesn’t appreciate GeForce’s strengths… Read more “Sapphire RX 7900 XT Pulse: RTX 4070 Ti crushed in rasterization” »

Test of coil whine across two samples of the same graphics cards

“My piece has quieter coils”. “Ours don’t whine, they’re exclusive”. Such and similar claims often appear across user testimonials on forums or (in the latter case) graphics card manufacturers. But somehow the exact supporting evidence, which we have now attempted to create, is always missing. Of course, it is impossible to form uuniversal conclusions from two samples, but at least we have something in our hands around which a serious debate can be held. VLC Media Player got RTX Video Super Resolution AI upscaling

In February, Nvidia released the RTX Video Super Resolution feature, which is video upscaling using the tensor cores of GeForce RTX 3000 and later GPUs. It’s basically an DLSS 1.0 equivalent (as it lacks motion vector based temporal filtering) for low-resolution web video. Initially, this RTX Video was only available in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, but now you can use it for local playback in the popular VLC Media Player. First AMD FSR 3.0 sneak peek, technology is similar to DLSS 3

Few months ago, AMD has announced ongoing work on the third generation of FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling, which should bring a similar feature to DLSS 3 – interpolating of intermediate frames inserted between legitimate game frames, much like TVs do with video and movies. AMD has now formally confirmed this and presented FSR 3.0, which will offer frame interpolation and will again be open technology (including source code). RTX 4080 Noctua Edition is out. Great cooler, what about the coils?

You already know the non-reference graphics cards with Noctua coolers from the Nvidia Ampere generation (GeForce RTX 3000), but now comes the first design with an Ada Lovelace GPU, on the RTX 4080. The main improvement of the cooler lies in the use of the Vapor Chamber and the cooling efficiency seems to be really top-notch. But we know less about the coils – nobody was really concerned with them in tests, but we did get some information from Noctua. Read more “RTX 4080 Noctua Edition is out. Radeon RX 6300 spotted in China. Modern GT 1030 replacement?

Basic low-cost dedicated GPUs became a dying breed over the last decade. Faster integrated GPUs leave less and less room for them and it doesn’t pay off to develop new chips of this sort anymore. Nvidia has been selling the GeForce GT 1030 with a 16nm Pascal architecture chip for almost six years now, and it’s only now, it seems. that a more modern replacement could appear: the Radeon RX 6300 with a 6nm GPU based on a current architecture. Radeon driver problem breaks Windows, avoid factory reset option

AMD released a new version of Radeon Software drivers 23.2.1 last month, which was significant in that after a hiatus where new versions were only for Radeon RX 7900s for a while, it merged the two branches and now the same driver supports all GPUs again. But it looks like there is a bug in the installer that may lead to a broken Windows installation. It’s said to happen only rarely, but there are certain situations to watch out for. Nvidia RTX Video Super Resolution out. What you need to know

In January, Nvidia announced a new feature for its graphics cards: the RTX Video Super Resolution, upscaling and post-processing videos played in Chrome-based web browsers. Nvidia uses AI upscaling with temporal stabilization in games under the DLSS name, so applying AI to web video is a logical extension. This feature has now been enabled by the current GeForce graphics drivers and the first comparisons and feedback are coming in. Read more “Nvidia RTX Video Super Resolution out. MSI RTX 4070 Ti Suprim X 12G: Band-aid for the “too pricey 4080”

After the GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards, which wasn’t to many people’s taste due to the higher price, Nvidia has released a significantly cheaper GPU for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The performance versus the RTX 4080 is admittedly noticeably weaker, but percentage-wise not by as much as the roughly two-thirds lower price of the RTX 4070 Ti. In our tests, we analyze MSI’s non-reference design from the top-of-the-line Suprim series. Read more “MSI RTX 4070 Ti Suprim X 12G: Band-aid for the “too pricey 4080”” »

GeForce RTX 4060 leak: lowest-power mainstream GPU since Pascal

We recently heard about the GeForce RTX 4070, but a card that should be significantly lower in price is also starting to take shape: the GeForce RTX 4060. Kopite7kimi delivered information on the chip it will be based on and the general parameters. It looks like the new “sixty” model could be quite a bi more “lightweight” than previous cards, dropping power draw to significantly lower level not seen since the GeForce GTX 1060 from 2016. Nvidia preparing launch of GeForce RTX 4070, planned for April

Last month, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti went on sale as the third model in Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace generation. It’s rather steeply priced at 799 USD though, while a generation back the third SKU in the roster was the RTX 3070 at 499 USD. A lot of people are likely  waiting for the lower-end cards of the lineup. Now, information has emerged as to when those might appear – namely the GeForce RTX 4070 SKU without the additional “Ti”.
