Intel Arc A380 GPU performance is worse than RX 6400 after all

After missing previous 2021 and Q1 2022 deadlines, Intel Arc discrete desktop graphics cards with the Xe HPG gaming architecture went on sale in China this month. But instead of some bombastic arrival, Intel is releasing them rather quietly, first only in China and only in the OEM market. But maybe that’s because they’re not really impressive yet – the first Arc A380 model seems to be falling well short of expectations in tests. Intel Arc graphics require PCIe Resizable BAR. Performance reasons?

Intel has finally entered the discrete gaming GPU market, even if it’s just the cheap Arc A380 in China. Intel has tried the waters with the Iris Xe card before, but it bizarrely didn’t work with most PCs except for a few select boards. It’s only this new product that finally represents a standard graphics card. However, there are still some oddities: Intel says it requires the board and processor to support PCIe Resizable BAR. Leak: when Nvidia plans to release the RTX 4090, 4080 and 4070

There’s been news today about Nvidia delaying the new low-cost graphics planned for the bottom of the company’s lineup. It seems that some delay could also occur in the highend. Apparently, the Lovelace architecture and the GeForce RTX 4000 next-gen gaming graphics based on it won’t start launching until August, not as early as July as was previously leaked. Also, the specifications of these graphics cards have been clarified a bit. Read more “Leak: when Nvidia plans to release the RTX 4090, 4080 and 4070” »

GeForce GTX 1630 launches next week. Full specs revealed

It looks like Nvidia’s new budget graphics card, which we just wrote about on Friday, will be out a lot sooner than it might have seemed. VideoCardz has already found out practically full specs of the GPU, so we have a better idea of where it might fit in terms of price and performance. In particular, though, they write that its launch should be practically around the corner, and we’ll probably see it at the end of this month. Read more “GeForce GTX 1630 launches next week. Full specs revealed” »

Photos of GeForce RTX 4090 Ti Founders Edition cooler have leaked

The news of this week is that the new GPU generation will not be waiting for September, with Nvidia planning to release (or at least unveil) the new Lovelace architecture and the first GeForce RTX 4000 graphics in July. And indeed, the leaks are starting to pour in. After the specs leak, a photo of the cooler for the top-of-the-line GeForce RTX 4090 or 4090 Ti Founders Edition cards directly from Nvidia has also surfaced. Radeon RX 6650 XT with AMD SAM: +6 % performance for 20 W

We didn’t make it to the release day of the Radeon RX 6000 refresh, but we’ve got them – performance tests with the Resizable BAR active. Mostly this technology is useful, but in some cases it is harmful. The test results show how AMD tunes this technology across different driver versions, optimizes it, and sometimes breaks and doesn’t fix some things for a change. However, these are outnumbered, and quite overwhelmingly, by improvements. Read more “Radeon RX 6650 XT with AMD SAM: +6 % performance for 20 W” »

FSR 2.0 is no eyesore now. AMD upscaler analysis in Deathloop

The second version of FidelityFX Super Resolution is officially released. This upscaler premiered in Deathloop, the first and so far the only supported game. We compared FSR 2.0 with FSR 1.0 in our tests, both visually and performance-wise. While FSR 1.0 couldn’t compete visually with Nvidia’s DLSS, and the result was significantly worse, AMD pulled the thorn out of its heel with FSR 2.0. A full-featured alternative is now available. Intel Arc graphics cards due in a few weeks, pricing has leaked

Intel’s entry into gaming GPU market currently held by just Nvidia and AMD has been long awaited. Intel took its first step with Arc GPUs in late March, but only with low-end mobile models so far. But the three-way competition could start as soon as this month with the arrival of regular Arc graphics cards in desktop PCs. According to the WCCFtech, mainstream models will come out first and we already have some price estimates. Read more “Intel Arc graphics cards due in a few weeks, pricing has leaked” »

Sapphire RX 6650 XT Nitro+ test: RTX 3060 falls even further behind

The Radeon RX 6650 XT replaces the RX 6600 XT in AMD’s lineup. That one beats the GeForce RTX 3060 in performance under certain circumstances, but always only narrowly. Now, after the GPU’s frequency and memory bandwidth increase, Radeon’s dominance is clear, and yet efficiency is still on AMD’s side. The non-reference Sapphire Nitro+ design is also super-quiet – the cooler is now quite a bit more robust. Read more “Sapphire RX 6650 XT Nitro+ test: RTX 3060 falls even further behind” »

Radeons RX 7000 to support PCIe 5.0, will get HW AV1 encoder

While so far unconfirmed, reports have surfaced that the next generation of gaming GPUs in Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4000 “Lovelace” will not yet support PCI Express 5.0 connectivity and will stay at 4.0 with half the lane speed. But it seems that PCIe 5.0 could be coming for the competition. This is hinted at in the code adding support for these GPUs to Linux, which also gave some other hints of the features of the RDNA 3 graphics. Even cheaper new RDNA 2 model, AMD is preparing Radeon RX 6300

The cheapest graphics card segment has been pretty dry in recent years, typically offering ancient GPUs like GeForce GT 1030 or Radeon RX 550 (2016 architectures) or even GeForce GT 710 (a decade old Kepler architecture). A more modern, 7nm chip could now be dropped into the pool of affordable or at least affordablish cards by AMD. It is reportedly preparing a Radeon RX 6300 model that would have the RDNA 2 architecture. Read more “Even cheaper new RDNA 2 model, AMD is preparing Radeon RX 6300” »

AMD reveals details of FSR 2.0, its temporal DLSS 2.0 competitor

AMD unveiled the upcoming second version of FidelityFX Super Resolution game upscaling – FSR 2.0 with temporal reconstruction and anti-aliasing to compete with Nvidia’s DLSS 2.x. Meanwhile, the company revealed more details about the technology: what graphics it works on, what modes and resolutions it will have, and the first details of the algorithm. For example, it’s supposed to preserve thin lines like wires in the sky. Read more “AMD reveals details of FSR 2.0, its temporal DLSS 2.0 competitor” »

Nvidia Hopper GPU architecture revealed. 4nm die & 18432 shaders

It’s been roughly two years since Nvidia has unveiled its 7 nm Ampere compute GPU (the A100 accelerator). Now the company is introducing a successor – the new Hopper GPU architecture and with it the Nvidia H100 compute GPU, which is based on a die called GH100. This is the most advanced and powerful GPU yet, manufactured for the first time on the 4nm process. But it also has the dubious honour of being the most power-hungry GPU ever. First discrete Intel Arc GPU out in two weeks – A370M for laptops

The first generation of gaming discrete GPUs from Intel – back then designated “Xe HPG” – was supposed to come out in 2021. That obviously didn’t happen and there has been confusion as to how much delay will there be ever since. In the end, it looks like Intel will narrowly manage to launch in the first quarter of this year, as promised last summer. Though it won’t be stand-alone desktop cards yet, just lower-end laptop cards. Read more “First discrete Intel Arc GPU out in two weeks – A370M for laptops” »
