We are starting to see introductions of first PCI Express 5.0 SSDs, which will enable up to double the read and write speeds on AMD AM5 and Intel LGA 1700 platforms. Many or majority of these SSDs will be based on the Phison E26 controller (and often on Phison reference design and firmware). Its manufacturer has now unveiled its specs at Computex 2022, showing us what the new cutting-edge SSD for PCs will look like. AMD AM5 platform: B650, X670, X670E chipsets and how they differ
This week, AMD unveiled the Ryzen 7000 CPUs and Zen 4 architecture at Computex 2022. These new desktop processors will also introduce a brand new platform with the AM5 socket and new chipsets – B650, X670 and X670E. We now have details of these platforms and an overview of the connectivity that the AM5 boards will offer. Some of it has been revealed directly by AMD, but there’s also an unofficial leak with many more details. Read more “AMD AM5 platform: B650, X670, X670E chipsets and how they differ”
GeForce GTX 1630 launches next week. Full specs revealed
It looks like Nvidia’s new budget graphics card, which we just wrote about on Friday, will be out a lot sooner than it might have seemed. VideoCardz has already found out practically full specs of the GPU, so we have a better idea of where it might fit in terms of price and performance. In particular, though, they write that its launch should be practically around the corner, and we’ll probably see it at the end of this month. Read more “GeForce GTX 1630 launches next week. Full specs revealed”
Photos of GeForce RTX 4090 Ti Founders Edition cooler have leaked
The news of this week is that the new GPU generation will not be waiting for September, with Nvidia planning to release (or at least unveil) the new Lovelace architecture and the first GeForce RTX 4000 graphics in July. And indeed, the leaks are starting to pour in. After the specs leak, a photo of the cooler for the top-of-the-line GeForce RTX 4090 or 4090 Ti Founders Edition cards directly from Nvidia has also surfaced. AMD Ryzen 7000 sample leaked: Zen 4 cores boost up to 5.2 GHz
AMD CPUs bringing the 5nm manufacturing process, the new Zen 4 architecture and also a new desktop platform (AM5) with DDR5 memory, look to be quite close, these Ryzen 7000 processors could be here as early as September. An interesting teaser has emerged now: it seems AMD tested a Ryzen 7000 sample in the Phoronix Test Suite, and the result went public in the OpenBenchmarking database. And it shows quite interesting specifications. Read more “AMD Ryzen 7000 sample leaked: Zen 4 cores boost up to 5.2 GHz”
Intel Arc graphics cards due in a few weeks, pricing has leaked
Intel’s entry into gaming GPU market currently held by just Nvidia and AMD has been long awaited. Intel took its first step with Arc GPUs in late March, but only with low-end mobile models so far. But the three-way competition could start as soon as this month with the arrival of regular Arc graphics cards in desktop PCs. According to the WCCFtech, mainstream models will come out first and we already have some price estimates. Read more “Intel Arc graphics cards due in a few weeks, pricing has leaked”
Radeons RX 7000 to support PCIe 5.0, will get HW AV1 encoder
While so far unconfirmed, reports have surfaced that the next generation of gaming GPUs in Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4000 “Lovelace” will not yet support PCI Express 5.0 connectivity and will stay at 4.0 with half the lane speed. But it seems that PCIe 5.0 could be coming for the competition. This is hinted at in the code adding support for these GPUs to Linux, which also gave some other hints of the features of the RDNA 3 graphics. Intel Meteor Lake already boots Windows. Launch pushed forward?
Late last week, Intel released Q1 financial results. In addition to sales, profits and margins numbers (which were noteably down), the company also announced news more technical in nature. The company already has the first functional CPUs manufactured using the 4nm “Intel 4” node, the 14th generation Core “Meteor Lake” chiplet design processors. This means that these CPUs could come out sooner than expected. Read more “Intel Meteor Lake already boots Windows. Launch pushed forward?”
Next year’s Ryzen 7000 APUs will have RDNA 3 GPUs
This fall, AMD is releasing a new generation of graphics cards (Radeon RX 7000) and Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” desktop processors with Zen 4 cores. However, this architecture should also be adopted quite quickly by Ryzen 7000 “Phoenix” APU processors for laptops. Little was known about these, but information on them has also started to leak: the Linux driver code has revealed the architecture of the integrated GPU. AMD Zen 5 will have 16-core CCX and other architecture news
Last week we wrote about leaked information on AMD’s Zen 5 processor architecture, published on the RedGamingTech youtube channel. Such information tends to be of rumor nature, so it should probably be treated with caution for now. However, the details this source gives are quite interesting, and now they have added some more specifics, so it is worthy to cover them, even if we have to keep in mind to not take it for granted. Zen 4 will also offer a 3D V-Cache gamer special, but only in 2023
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D, AMD’s new processor aimed specifically at gaming is now on sale. Based on the reviews, it seems that the 96MB 3D V-Cache it touts really helps in games significantly. This is the final CPU on the AM4 platform, still with the Zen 3 architecture, so many people are probably torn, eyeing Zen 4 instead. For those, there’s good news: Zen 4 with 3D V-Cache is also in the works, but it will take tame to arrive. Read more “Zen 4 will also offer a 3D V-Cache gamer special, but only in 2023”
Even cheaper new RDNA 2 model, AMD is preparing Radeon RX 6300
The cheapest graphics card segment has been pretty dry in recent years, typically offering ancient GPUs like GeForce GT 1030 or Radeon RX 550 (2016 architectures) or even GeForce GT 710 (a decade old Kepler architecture). A more modern, 7nm chip could now be dropped into the pool of affordable or at least affordablish cards by AMD. It is reportedly preparing a Radeon RX 6300 model that would have the RDNA 2 architecture. Read more “Even cheaper new RDNA 2 model, AMD is preparing Radeon RX 6300”
Zen 4: SP5 socket and 5nm AMD Epyc with 12 CPU dies pictured
Recently, the first test or sighting of a sample of AMD’s 5nm processor with the new Zen 4 architecture appeared on the Internet. Now we also have the first photo. And not only the processor, but also the silicon – a delidded 96-core Epyc 7004 “Genoa” has made it to the Internet. We have a proof that Zen 4 uses CPU chiplets with eight cores and there will be a whole 12 of them and under the IHS of the processor. Surprise in HEDT CPUs? Intel reportedly preparing Alder Lake-X
Intel is expected to release a new platform of high-end processors based on the Sapphire Rapids Xeons server CPUs this fall. It would thus once again return to an area it had essentially abandoned with the decline of the X299 platform and its high-end processors. But strangely enough, a report has now surfaced that Intel is preparing surprise high-end CPUs, never known until now: something called Alder Lake-X. Read more “Surprise in HEDT CPUs? Intel reportedly preparing Alder Lake-X”
First test of Zen 4 in Geekbench, Cache capacities confirmed
Last week, alleged leaks painted the future high-end Ryzen 9 processor lineup in AMD’s upcoming 5nm CPU generation. Now an actual sample of Zen 4 has surfaced – someone tested it in Geekbench and the result made it into the public database. This is apparently the first ever such leak, which may illustrate some of the architectural changes AMD is planning in the new cores.
