AMD launches FSR 3. Open source-frame generation for all GPUs

Last week at Gamescom, AMD added two new SKUs to its Radeon RX 7000 graphics card line-up, the RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT. But there were also other, more software-side news – the upcoming FSR 3 or FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology, featuring the so-called Fluid Motion Frames. It is an open-source alternative to Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technology that will work on a broad portfolio of GPUs, including older generations. Read more “AMD launches FSR 3. Nvidia unveils DLSS 3.5: Better ray tracing not only for RTX 4000

Nvidia has now announced a new iteration of its DLSS AI upscaling technology, following on from the third generation or DLSS 3 from last year. However, the new DLSS 3.5 is somewhat confusingly named, as it is to some extent more of a continuation of DLSS 2.x – this improvement will not depend on DLSS 3 (also referred to as Frame Generation). That means it works on older GeForce RTX 2000 and RTX 3000 generation graphics cards. Read more “Nvidia unveils DLSS 3.5: Better ray tracing not only for RTX 4000” »

Radeon RX 7800 XT confirmed. PowerColor leaked all the info

Just after the rumors that a low-cost gaming Radeon RX 7500 could be coming out, it turns out that AMD is probably going to launch a more powerful model before that – the Radeon RX 7800 XT, which will rank below the also new OEM-only RX 7900 GRE. PowerColor basically went and revealed more or less everything about the 7800 XT graphics card that is going to use the Navi 32 GPU so now it’s just a question of when it will hit the market. More (V)RAM: Micron plans bigger GDDR7 and DDR5 chips

With the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, there has been discussion that most GPUs won’t get double memory capacity until larger chips come to market. But that seems to be happening. Micron’s roadmap how shows higher capacity DRAM chips. These will be larger DDR5 chips, which will enable 256GB RAM sizes in a regular PC. But there are also plans for larger GDDR7 chips, which will allow memory capacity on graphics cards to be raised. Read more “More (V)RAM: Micron plans bigger GDDR7 and DDR5 chips” »

Asus puts M.2 SSD on GeForce RTX 4060 Ti to make use of PCIe ×16

There’s more and more graphics cards that don’t use the full width of PCI Express ×16 slot and run with just eight lanes to cut GPU die area and cost. This usually renders the remaining eight lanes useless, but Asus has now come up with an idea to make them useful. They still won’t be usable for the graphics card itself, but at least they’ll find some use. It could come in handy on A620 boards with a shortage of M.2 slots, for example. Do you like small GPUs? Gigabyte RTX 4060 Windforce OC 8G details

Nvidia’s smallest, lowest-power, cheapest, and possibly most efficient Ada Lovelace GPU is already a reality in GeForce RTX 4060 graphics cards. Thanks to the low power draw, even very small designs with excellent compatibility with surrounding components are possible. The Gigabyte Windforce OC 8G, which does not outweigh even a half-liter can, is one of these. Read more “Do you like small GPUs? Gigabyte RTX 4060 Windforce OC 8G details” »

Increase in Radeon power draw with 2+ screens only in some cases

The hypothesis that with newer graphics drivers, the second (or third) monitor increases the power draw of all Radeon graphics cards only symbolically has not been confirmed. It was quickly refuted right away by the RX 7600 tests. But then, with the RX 7900 XTX another assumption proved likely. Namely, that there is no significant increase in power draw, at least for current cards from higher classes. At least under certain circumstances. Asus Dual RTX 4070 12G or RTX 3080 cease to make sense

GeForce RTX 4070 graphics cards fill a large gap between the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4060 Ti, and in terms of speed or gaming performance, they hover around the RTX 3080. But that’s with many advantages, including half the power draw with the RTX 4070. With cheaper designs, such as the tested Asus Dual variant, the price/performance ratio is also more attractive with the RTX 4070 (compared to discount RTX 3080s). Gigabyte Aorus RX 7900 XTX Elite 24G. If RTX 4090 is too costly…

The most powerful Radeon (RX 7900 XTX) is both slower and less efficient compared to the GeForce RTX 4090, but it’s also roughly 700 EUR cheaper. And that’s what gives it an unprecedented price/performance ratio for a high-end graphics card. The latter is more attractive even than the lower-end RX 7900 XT, and that’s also the case with Gigabyte’s top-of-the-range Aorus Elite, which, oddly enough, only comes at a minimal premium. RTX 4090 from PNY to have Cooler Master Mobius fans

Cooler Master is involved in the production of a GPU cooler. However, you can’t buy it separately as it is an exclusive part of the PNY RTX 4090 Verto ARGB Dual Fan. After Asus with Noctua coolers, this is another case where a traditional graphics card manufacturer has recognized that using the experience of a company specializing in cooling components will achieve a better result. But that’s at an extreme, 4.5-slot thickness. Read more “RTX 4090 from PNY to have Cooler Master Mobius fans” »

Sapphire RX 7600 Pulse: A clear winner in price/performance

AMD has also upgraded the lower-end Radeons, and the RX 7600 with RDNA 3 architecture represents a really cheap graphics card. All things considered, it’s fair to say that, at least until the arrival of the GeForce RTX 4060, it’s the best value you can get for Full HD gaming. And did you know that the RX 7600 also dominates in simpler workstation environments that benefit from GPU performance? Read more “Sapphire RX 7600 Pulse: A clear winner in price/performance” »

RDNA 3 the same as RDNA 2? Wrong, computational tests show

We’re still in the process of finishing our review of the Radeon RX 7600 (the Pulse model by Sapphire), but we made a little preview, looking at a subset of tests that might go unnoticed in the final review: compute applications benchmarks. Why? The card seems to show better than typical performance gains in them. We’ve seen opinions stating that Navi 33 GPU bingst nothing new versus the Navi 23 chip, but these results say otherwise. MSI RTX 4060 Ti Gaming X Trio 8G: Extra efficient and quiet

Mid-range graphics cards with Ada Lovelace GPUs are finally here. The intergenerational speed increase is relatively lower with the RTX 4060 Ti, but the power draw has dropped significantly and the overall operating characteristics are pleasing. Especially when it comes to designs similar to the MSI Gaming X Trio with a well oversized cooler. Three fans, power draw under 170W, and gaming performance well above the Radeon RX 6650 XT. GeForce in ARM processors. MediaTek SoCs will use Nvidia GPUs

Android phones are dominated by Qualcomm, but it is closely followed by MediaTek, which has already achieved similarly significant market shares, but lacks a comparable positioning in the highend and flagship mobile phone segment. But it looks like MediaTek is preparing a move that could possibly shake things up. The Taiwanese manufacturer is said to have teamed up with Nvidia, and its mobile chips could feature GPUs with its architecture. Read more “GeForce in ARM processors. One of the fastest, Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24G

For a long time they were missing in our test database, but now we are adding them – the results of a GeForce RTX 4090. When it comes to gaming performance, graphics cards with AD102 GPUs have no competition, but it often costs an extreme 450 W. The Gigabyte Windforce cooler handles such an onslaught by a wide margin though, on top of, and now hold on to your hats, non-loud coils, somewhere on the level of the RTX 3060 (Ti). Really.
